Well, today was my first day. Was definately a decent day. I think I was in or above my element. I got there around 1030 and started my orientation. In that orientation there was a 3 to 4 hour online training guide that I had to go through with questions. Well, I finished it up in about 45 minutes, if not less. Then I went and picked up my area badge, got it primed to open some doors, and got my network password. All of this was done before noon. Well no one expected me for a few more hours, so I was the one doing the waiting for once :) That is always a good thing. After the paperwork and all that jazz, I was given my first task of organizing a back room full of misc computer stuff. I attacked it, and it attacked me! First battle wound came in the form of a plastic rack mount to the chin, which actually started bleeding fairly well. Not a tragedy, I trooped it out, got it to stop bleeding, and finished cleaning up the room without any more injuries. After that it was tough finding things to do. My mentor gave me a computer and told me to build a linux box, so I did. Got a little help from the other cave trolls, stupid non standard computer builds. Anyways, got it up and running and ran out the clock on the first day. Everyone I met seemed nice, but I'm sure they got a semi negative impression of me. Who knows, the other cave trolls were nice. I'll figure them out the more I see them.
I bet you are wondering why I call them cave trolls? There where my office is, just inside the fish bowl, the office that I'm in is a cave. No lights except computer monitors and a lava lamp......yes, a lava lamp. Definately a different situation than I'm use to; yet it feels so right.
