Today in summary
8am: start kicking everyone out of our Records management system (RMS) for a major upgrade/conversion. vendor estimate 4-6 hours
10am: get the last person out of RMS, start update
11am: "How long is this going to take, we've got a homicide investigation we need the records system for"
3pm: Vendor: "Never seen it do that before...."
8pm: System 98% back up, dispatchers cease gathering torches and pitchforks, start entering all the calls they've been using pen and paper to track.
Tomorrow: Call vendor, find out why accident diagrams are broken. Begin to update each and every laptop by hand once I can track them down, assuming they are sitting dead due to battery recalls.
