[Locked to Elizabeth]

How are you doing? It's been a while.

I'm going to be heading out of town for a while. I don't think I'm going to be gone long, but do you want to meet somewhere before I go? I shouldn't be leaving for another week, but I'm not sure when it'll be yet.

Elizabeth is waiting outside of her apartment complex for Nick. She wouldn't mind him coming into the apartment too, but she feels really good today and has not been out much. It is obvious with how extra pale she is so it's nice to be able to sit on the steps of the apartment complex, feel the sun washing down while she waits.

She went down about fifteen minutes early just so she could sit out in it, and the sun is nice today. It's warm, bright. It's going to be a good day.

For one, she gets to see a friend that she hasn't seen in awhile. For another, they get to enjoy some of the best pizza ever together. She's really excited and really happy that he wrote to her since her mind is kind of a mess lately, and it's hard for her to sort things out.

Nick comes walking down the path only a couple of minutes early. He's been out most of the morning, wandering around Grant Park -- he's been having trouble staying indoors lately, too keyed up and eager to travel. But he's cheerful, despite it, especially today -- it's good to be seeing Elizabeth again, and it's good be going out and doing things with somebody, even if things is just lunch.

He smiles when he spots her, lifting a hand to wave, and there's a spark of concern in his gaze when he studies her and notices how pale she is. He does his best to keep it to himself, though, and when he reaches her, he envelopes her in a hug.

Elizabeth gets to her feet when she sees him, and there's no hint of all the things that have been plaguing her on her face, because she's always so happy to see a friend. And Nick is definitely a friend. She grins and she hugs him tightly.

But not too tightly, she has that angel strength going for her after all.

She even remembers to pull back before speaking for once. "Hey! It's so good to see you," she says. "I'm really happy you wrote me, okay?"

She'd wanted to see him before he left.

He grins as she pulls back to talk, glad she remembered -- not that he minds if she forgets, but it's nice not to miss half of what she's said -- and pulls out his notebook as he watches her mouth move.

"Me too," he scribbles down quickly, nodding slightly as he turns his attention to writing. "It's really good to see you again. How are you doing?" With a very brief hesitation first -- he's not sure if he should bring it up, but he wants to know -- he adds, "Is the angel stuff you mentioned doing any better?", before handing her the paper.

Elizabeth grins too. She is pretty proud of herself for remembering even if he's nice enough to not mind when she forgets. Elizabeth glances down at the notepad as he writes.

"I'm okay. I'm... better than I was when you wrote me," she says though she knows the whole... insanity thing is well on its way. Good days and bad days, the bad days outweigh the good, but she's really grateful today is a good one. "But I-- I don't know if it'll get completely better again."

It's not easy to admit but it's honesty and she'd prefer that to totally surprising him someday when she's lost her mind and doesn't remember herself, let alone him.

"But what about you? How are you?"

He watches the words and this time he can't really hide the worry at what she says. He doesn't say anything, because he can tell it's hard to talk about and he doesn't want to make her talk about it and he's not sure what to tell her anyway, but the worry is there, and he reaches out and rests his hand on her shoulder for a minute, squeezing lightly. It takes a second after her question for him to pull his hand back in order to write.

"I'm okay. Mostly getting ready to get out of town.
Should we get going?" he adds before handing it back to her.

Elizabeth sees the worry, and she smiles at him, resting a hand on his arm for a moment. There's not a whole lot she can do to reassure him. She tries to smile as reassuringly as she can as her hand rests on his arm when his own hand rests on her shoulder. And after a moment, she hugs him, tightly.

Time is limited. It's something she's always known.

She nods. "Yep, we should! I'm hungry. I'm taking you to the best pizza place that there is," Elizabeth informs him, tugging him by the arm down the sidewalk. "It is deep dish, any kind that you should want, cheese, extra cheese, peppers... if you like vegetables."

She makes a little face. Vegetables aren't her favorite. "But we'd split a small pizza like half and half, half your fave and half my fave things!"

He hugs her tightly in return, closing his eyes and giving her a light kiss on the cheek, and he only moves back a step or two in order to write, close enough to knock against her arm a little bit now and again.

Physical comfort is the only kind he can really offer. At least she's someone who'll probably appreciate it, though.

He smiles at her face, scribbling a little unsteady as they walk.
"No vegetables is good for me. How do you feel about pepperoni and sausage?"

Elizabeth smiles at him, and she does appreciate the physical comfort, sometimes more than the words themselves. She never realized how much a physical comfort could mean to her.

But it means a lot. She's happy to get the hug and kiss on her cheek, and she smiles brightly at him in turn.

She glances down. "I feel... good, very good about it," Elizabeth says. "You know my grandma cause she raised me... she used to have to put food coloring on all of my food. I would only eat it if it were all in different, vibrant colors."

There's a silent laugh, and he shakes his head a little as he starts to writing. "Maybe that's where your colorful personality came from," he poses, because terrible jokes are not just for verbal conversation, clearly.

Elizabeth laughs at his answer. She can't help it. It's a very good answer, and he doesn't think that it's a terrible joke at all.

"You know that makes lot of sense. I guess I should thank her and thank my own pour taste," she says with a smile, nudging him with her hip. "I like having a colorful personality. Thank you for saying so."

She points ahead to the pizza place. "There it is. Best in Chicago. You have my word."
