Just watched this movie again for the umpteenth time, although the first time in a bit of a long stretch.
This is almost my favorite movie. I like watching it because it has such a sense of grandeur and of time whisking away. Sometimes I watch it and forget how much time passes in the movie between events. And how far they are actually traveling. The three main characters are such bad asses each in their own right. Makes for a great time.
Clint Eastwood makes a good "The Good" in the character of "Blondie," at first he seems no better than any of the self centered men portrayed in the movie, but there are subtle and sometimes not so subtle parts in which his nice side shows.
Eli Wallach "Tuco" is amazing as the "The Ugly" Tuco. This character does show the ugly side of human nature. The need for vengeance, greediness and a whole slew of other "character flaws" show themselves in Wallach's performance.
Finally Lee Van Cleef carries the banner of "The Bad" with great poise. He plays a man who will do much to get his way and he has no regard for anyone but himself. He is from among the three really really bad. In a film full of wrong doings Van Cleef makes his character "Angel Eyes" stand out from the crowd with his sneer, long un-remorseful strides.
