I just got a CD from library reserve by sigur ros...i almost cried listening to it, it was so beautiful. part of the beauty is i have no idea what she is singing.
i heart RI libraries. my cd came from a little library on block island, which means it had to get to me by boat.
about the whole "the vice president shot his best friend" incident
i wrote my spanish thesis on horacio quiroga
a morbid writer from the rioplatense area of uruguay and argentina
shot and killed his best friend
while showing his best friend how to use a gun
because his best friend was going to have a gun fight with someone else.
other tragedies in h.quiroga's life:
his father died while hunting by accidentally shooting himself -- he and his mom were witnesses
his stepdad was really ill and i think shot himself with his foot
his first wife, which he brought out to the jungle to live with him, killed herself with poison and died slowly
his second wife divorced him
he killed himself
and his two kids (or at least one of them)killed themselves
makes our lives look a heck of a lot cheerier, eh?
my thesis was a 25 page paper (in spanish) about how the tragedies affected his writing and showed parallels between his life and stories.
