Last week I was listening to nothing but My Bloody Valentine, both before and after the show. To start the week I had become (re)addicted to both M83 and Animal Collective's latest missives.
And now I've moved on to a new addiction:
The Monks, a mid-60's proto-punk band a former American G.I.'s who were stationed in Germany, and after leaving the Army formed the band.
I'd heard of them before but never listened to them. And then last night I stumbled across
a documentary about them on the Sundance Channel, and was completely blown away by their music. The documentary was OK, but the music was fantastic. They basically positioned themselves as the anti-Beatles, and really only achieved limited success in Germany before they broke up at the end of the decade.

Their debut album 'Black Monk Time' and a compilation of earlier recordings
were both recently re-issued. I picked up Black Monk Time earlier today, but think I'll have to go back later in the week, or next weekend, and get the Early Recordings.
I spent an hour driving around town blasting Black Monk Time, it is even better than I expected. If you love the 60's garage rock and proto-punk, you'll absolutely love this.
