Wow
The Porcupine Mountains were absolutely beautiful.
First day: 3.5 miles. Got to the porkies around 4:30 after packing and moving stuff to storage. Hiked 1 mile from the parking lot to the trailhead, then another 2.5 along the lake superior trailhead to buckshot landing. It was really beautiful there, got some nice pictures. We were only about 20 yards from lake superior. Had a small dinner, sat around the fire, and went to bed.
Second day: 7 miles. Hiked along the lake superior trail for a good length, we stopped at lone rock and a couple other places along the shore. We got to the Big Carp river and hiked up the BC River trail until we couldn't go any further. We didn't have a fire that night, we weren't at a designated campsite so there was no fire pit. We were both really tired anyway. We ate and went to bed.
Third day: 6.5 miles. Hiked a few miles up the BC River trail to the Correction Line trail. CL was a pain in the ass...very very uphill. We made it to Mirror lake at about 3, set up camp, took a nap, played with fire for a while, had dinner, then relaxed and went to bed. Woke up to hail at midnight, which then turned to snow, and I fell back asleep
Fourth day: 5 miles. Woke up to an inch or so of snow on the ground, and it was freezing cold. We ate a cold breakfast inside the tent, packed up as quickly as we could (good thing we filled up on water the night before), and hit the trail at about 8:30. We made really good time for the first 4.5 miles, as it was almost all downhill until we got back to the BC River. From there it was another very uphill climb. We stopped often, as the trail was steep. Got off a few pictures of Lake of the Clouds before we got back to the parking lot at about 11:30. We stopped to eat at some little family restaraunt in Ontonagon, then came back to Houghton.
It's kinda nice that the Best Westerh has free WiFi, I can check my email and make a little update. I'll be back in L-town by this time tomorrow, as long as traffic isnt too bad (it shouldnt be).
Lindsay, you'd better be ready for the cuddlestorm which is about to ensue. I love you sweetie, and I cant wait to hold you again.
Later, kids
