Character Info

Character Name: Maraich
Series: Patalliro! (manga)
Canon Point: Before volume 2 where he first becomes a good guy (his history is explained in later volumes).
Character's Age: 18
History: Maraich was an orphan who went to a private school. He was shy, quiet and lonely. At 9 the gardener of the school, Sharman, saw him sitting by himself and befriended him. He came to trust Sharman as his only friend.

Unfortunately, Sharman was a pedophile and lured Maraich to a secluded spot to rape him. Maraich ran away from the school and sat out on a sidewalk in the rain.

That's when Count du Larken's limo drove up. He convinced Maraich to go with him. He took Maraich home to a mansion where several other young boys lived as well. The other boys didn't get along with Maraich, but he was placed in the kitchen and tried his hardest to make the Count happy. The other boys often fought with him because they were jealous of the attention he received.

One time they were outside and one of the boys picked up a large rock. He threw it at Maraich from behind, and the Count saw Maraich quickly dodge the rock. He realized Maraich had natural talent and decided to train him as an assassin. He would put Maraich in a room with grown men and have him try to fend them off. As a child he was scared and ran away, dodging everything with natural agility. As he got older he became an incredible martial artist with amazing skills in hand-to-hand combat and throwing knives.

Maraich is a normal human with incredible dexterity and aim. In the series he is able to hit a man in shins as he's running away with his throwing knives. He also ricochets throwing knives off a wall and into a man's back. He's also an expert martial artist, able to throw men larger than himself. The Count made sure he was well-trained and ready to die for him. He has no super powers and he can be beaten in fights.

The Count was part of an organization called the International Diamond Syndicate that had a monopoly on buying and selling diamonds. He used Maraich as an assassin to help him get to the top of the organization. Before he dies in the series he's #2 in the syndicate.

Personality: As the history section would suggest, Maraich is a sea of issues. He doesn't see himself as a victim of the Count. He believes he's truly in love. He does bad things not because he's evil but because he loves the Count.

He's not angsty. He has a very perky personality most of the time and tends to get into trouble.

Two of Maraich's emphasized traits are his anger and his jealousy. In the series his lover, Bancoran, cheats quite often. Maraich is the extremely jealous type who will hit redial on his phone, check his records and follow him to see where he's going. When he catches Bancoran cheating he usually gets violent. In one chapter he gets so angry that he sends Bancoran to the hospital.

Maraich is often shown as a good person who doesn't stay in the boundaries. He can go too far, and be childish about it, but shows remorse afterwords. In chapter 26 he leaves another man hanging out a 10 story window for awhile because he was mad at him for kissing his boyfriend. He didn't let him fall, though, and later on gave a brief apology. He clearly felt bad when the other man left although he had trouble swallowing his pride enough to give anything more than a curt apology.

Despite his looks, Maraich wouldn't care for being called 'girly'. He's a proud and strong fighter. He prefers 'graceful'. He's very stubborn. In his introduction into the series he attempts to kill Bancoran, gets shot and left alone in the woods, and he manages to get a disguise and make his way into the castle to try to kill Bancoran again without receiving medical attention. He's been an assassin for a long time and thinks it's naive when people underestimate him based on looks - not that he wouldn't take advantage of that naivety if it was opportune.

In general he's an energetic person who loves cooking. When he falls in love with Bancoran he changes his alliances and is shown to be a trustworthy ally. Although I'm taking him from before he switches, this would still be a part of his character.

Maraich is extremely emotional. He's a romantic at heart who hates to be alone. When his trust is betrayed he's prone to huge bursts of emotion, whether he's angry enough to attack someone or sad enough to burst into tears. He can be a little unstable emotionally and sometimes overreacts, such as getting angry enough when Bancoran has to stay late for work that he packs up his things and storms off to another country. For his upbringing he can be surprisingly gullible - it's possible that the Count needed to keep him that way to make sure he was easy to manipulate.
Although he's friendly and outgoing he can be socially awkward. He's never had much in the way of 'real friends' or people who like him for who he is. He's hesitant to fully trust people and believe they'll stick around.

In the company he was raised in you either perform well or ended up dead, which I would guess is pretty stressful. Before Maraich even makes his first appearance, two people used by the IDS were also killed by them. He would have been well-aware for almost ten years that if he screwed up he'd end up dead. So he worries a lot about proving that he's strong. He tries not to show any weaknesses.

It's important to note that the series is currently 82 volumes long - 30 years in the making - and still ongoing. There's a ton of stories in all of those chapters to showcase all different sides of characters. Maraich has stories where he goes out on adventures, throws a hissy fit and runs off, learns lessons... It's difficult to sum it up in a few paragraphs. He doesn't blab to everyone that he's an assassin (that wouldn't be a smart thing to do in that sort of profession) or talk too much about his past. I go over his canon constantly to find new things and try to pay close attention to how he handles stuff. Questions are welcome!

How will you character react to the setting?: Maraich is a strong fighter but also a fairly understandable and normal human being. He would be terrified of monsters running around. Although he likes throwing knives he would be very happy to have a pistol in that situation. He definitely isn't the type who likes to get dirty so he wouldn't want to touch grotesque monsters with his bare hands.
He wouldn't want anyone else to know he's scared so he would try to hold it in.
Many of the monsters in Silent Hill represent sexual urges or sexual abuse. Maraich has a long history of sexual abuse so it would bother him a lot. A monster like Pyramid Head is his worst nightmare.
After the initial reaction his mood could influence how he reacts a lot. In general he would want to stay away from monsters. If he was angry he might actually go out and look for something that he could beat down. He wouldn't be keen on going deep into different areas to find new monsters - he'd probably get a little used to the easier monsters littered all over the streets and want to stick to things he know he can handle.

First Person: [text]
Hello? Can anyone see this? This is going to be a little hard to believe, but I woke up in some sort of town and I can't remember how I got here. and no, I didn't get drunk.
I tried to find someone but the town looks like it's abandoned. All these shops are broken down. And the street just ends. As in, a big giant hole. I'm not sure I could climb down it. I can't even tell how far it goes because of all this fog.
I can't seem to call anyone, so if you see this can you send some help? It looks like this place is called "Silent Hill".
Anyway, I'm going to take a look around and see if I can find another way out. If I can't call anyone I doubt anyone will see this anyway.

Third Person: The click of his heels echoed as he stopped in front of the crevice. The road stopped abruptly here. It looked like an earthquake ripped it right out of the ground. Kneeling down, he narrowed his eyes to look further. This damn fog. You couldn't see more than a few feet. He wondered idly how far down it could really go, but he wasn't about to see for himself at this point. Not without taking a look at other options.

He held up the cell phone he had found in the hotel room. It was nice to have a normal object in his hand that wasn't falling apart. At least it made it feel like he was still on the same world. With several clicks he sent off a message to only-god-knew-where.
Well, now what?
He snapped the phone closed and headed back down the street. The hotel he woke up in wasn't far from here. He still didn't get it. How did he end up here? Had someone drugged him? It wouldn't have been impossible... But who? The Count wouldn't benefit from this. It wouldn't be necessary in the first place. If he needed to hide him, Maraich would have gladly complied.

A loud creak interrupted his thoughts and he stopped in place. Lakeside Amusement Park. A large black gate at the entrance was firmly shut, so the creaking must have been coming from further inside. The sound slowed until it finally became deathly silent. He couldn't see anyone out here but an eerie feeling was growing in his gut.
Why wasn't anyone out here?
Besides that, he didn't see what use visiting an amusement park would be right now.

Well, he thought he saw some sort of buildings over by the pier. Maybe he could find something to eat for now...

The walk did nothing to make him feel better about the place. It looked like the natural elements had been eating away at the city. Wood was rotten, metal was rusty and everything was covered in grime or dust. At least that meant he probably didn't have to worry about a lot of other people being here.

He walked down the small streets near the edge of the lake until he happened upon a small convenience store. Inside he wasn't surprised to see a jumbled mess. At least he could check for food, though.

A bunch of misplaced racks and crates were lying around. If he got a crowbar later perhaps he could try to see what was inside.

At first he didn't see the counter behind the mess. Once he saw it, though, he found something he was even more interested in - a small drink sitting on the edge of the counter. The label was scratched beyond recognition and he couldn't find the expiration date anywhere. Well, he could still hold onto it just in case.

A cash register sat near the middle of the counter. With a quick glance around - he wasn't sure why he bothered to make sure no one was watching - he reached over to open it. Locked. He could fix that later. It probably didn't have much in it anyway.

He tried to get into several drawers but they were all locked. Whoever owned the place must have been extremely paranoid. Whatever. When he found something to use as a pick or a good solid weapon he'd come back and take a look at what was inside the stuff. For now he had more places to take a look at. Maybe he'd even find someone.
