Commentary on StrangeandCharm's "Suck It Up"

Aug 08, 2009 23:25

This is a running commentary of every tiny little thought that comes into my head as I read strangeandcharm's latest story, Suck It Up. The point behind this is to provide some laughs and an original review of the story.

These are all my thoughts on the first time through the story- it's all new to me, and I am writing it down AS it comes.

Just a warning. As the original story is rated NC-17, it's safe to say this journal entry will be at least R, and there will obviously be spoilers. (I also managed to stick in a spoiler for the last Twilight book. Crazy stuff, huh.)

And this is totally dedicated to Strangeandcharm.

I know it's a really cheesy way to start a story, but I'm wondering what Dean's up to. The warning says Dark!Dean and bloodplay, so my mind is swimming around him drinking blood, but it said he might ask Cas or Sammy to do it.

Ooooh, Dean's a vampire... WHY did I not get that? I really should've been able to guess it right at the mention of vampires.

So he's going to kill himself. That's cheerful. Let's pull a Gordon and finish our LAST job, then kill ourself. Selves. Tenses are my enemy. Enemies. Goddamn.

So then what shit did Sam get himself into? Is this Dark!Sam as well? Is he helping Lucifer, or has he been kidnapped?

Slake... I like that word... Slake...

"His ears are so attuned into the world around him that he hears an owl ripping apart a rat in a tree above his head. Its beak keeps digging into the flesh, pulling, stretching, muscles and tendons ripping with a wet sound that makes Dean’s stomach roll." This bit makes me think of the scene from The Last Unicorn where the Harpy tears apart the old crone... Not to mention, this whole bit is making me think of Twilight, even though it's so much better and I couldn't even read it after (spoiler!) Bella got turned into a vampire.

In a weird way, it's also making me think of both the Warriors books- the ones about the clans of cats living in the woods- because the description of the owl eating the rat is making me think of Firepaw's first experience with freshkill, AND it's making me think of the Guardians of GaHoole series, because... it was about owls. And I'm focusing WAY too much on the damn owl.  *focuses on Dean*

Whooo, Castiel!

"And then… and then he feels a rush of overwhelming, breathtaking anger and he launches himself at the angel, knocking him flat on his back on the earth. He pounces on him, straddling his waist with his legs as he punches him on the jaw so hard it surprises him as much as it surprises Castiel. It doesn’t hurt this time: he feels flesh give against his knuckles and hears his victim grunt in pain, and for the first time since this happened he feels sickeningly proud of his new strength." Three things that are hot about this paragraph:
1. Cas being pinned to the ground.
2. Dean stradding his waist.
3. Castiel grunting in pain.
I think because Cas is an angel and in the show he doesn't react to anything for a while, or his reactions are greatly diminished, ANY noise he makes in REACTION to Dean is hot. Or maybe it's just because this is a short fic and I know the scene is promising.

Interlude: Strangeandcharm rocks.

"Sonofabitch" is one of my favorite terms in existence... ever since I started watching Supernatural.

Wow, Dean is... rather furious. Deep breaths, Dean, deep breaths. Does anybody else want to pat him on the back?

Castiel's lips is bleeding...

Second interlude: Whump is golden.

I like the comparison of blood to coffee, bread, and apple pie. Hehe.

"He seems to know exactly what Dean is thinking and in one sinuous movement he’s thrown him to one side and jumped to his feet again, hands outstretched before him in warning." Two things that are hot:
1. Throwing Dean
2. Castiel is SINUOUS!

I HAVE IT! Strangeandcharm is a WHUMPTRESS! It is a combination of seamstress, someone who makes dresses (just... concentrate on the making things), temptress, because goddammit she is one, and whump, because she's practically turned it into a medium. Congratulations, Strangeandcharm, I've given you a brand new title.

"He lunges at Castiel, so quickly he puts a human to shame, but the angel grips him by the wrists and forces him to his knees with so much strength that Dean howls in frustration." .....Do I even need to explain what's hot about that passage? I bet I'm finding more hot things that Strangeandcharm intended when she wrote this. XD

Swearing is hot... when it's not gratuitous. (I only insert this condition because my brother is playing GTA: San Andreas right in front of me, and every other word they use is "fuck.")

Castiel is undressing... yesyesyes...

"He pulls open his shirt and bares his neck. " Imagery... imagery...

Whimpers are also hot.

"Dean pushes him onto his back and flattens out on top of him, fastening himself on his jugular vein like a leech." And just like that, my pants are happy.  Ha, now I'm almost self concious because it makes me look like a terrible person. XD

Moaning is the king of hot...

Okay, and at the point where she compares the blooddrinking to an orgasm, I get the understanding that this is where we're MEANT to get excited, so I (hope) I'm in the clear. ;)

You have to think the whole thing about it being "sexual" is only because it's Dean and Castiel, because you didn't get that idea at all when watching actual vampires during the actual show. Or maybe I didn't and Strangeandcharm did. Haha.

*dances around in happy pants*

The perspective of this story is a little weird, because I see that it seems to be third person selective- we can see inside Dean's head, not Castiel's- but we can ALMOST see what Cas is thinking, and for one paragraph it seemed to be Castiel talking, which made the pronoun "he" misleading for just a little bit of time.

"He ruts against his partner lasciviously, delighting in the friction, realizing that his eyesight and hearing aren’t the only senses heightened by his new condition." Okay, rutting is hot- just putting that out there- and I love the idea that his... how to say... well, that being a vampire makes sex better.

OH. I remember now, the very first vampire episode- when John was still alive- THAT had sex in it, and the vampires were sexually charged, but in the later ones with Gordon, I don't recall there being any sex at all.

I also love erratically jerking hips...

"a little voice at the back of his mind shrieks that Dean wouldn’t treat Castiel this way. Dean wouldn’t treat anybody this way." I weird little part of me is thinking of the book "Black Like Me" just because of the theme of "identity", even though it was used totally differently in BLM. In fact, the two have exactly zero aspects in common...

Let's just say I have happy pants right now... Strangeandcharm is clearly a master at her craft. I also love how Castiel was pretty much impervious to lust until Dean actually kissed him- THEN he moaned and started reacting. And once again, CASTIEL moaning is HOT DAMN.

And I love grinding... Seeing any patterns here anyone?

“You kinky son of a bitch,” he huffs against his lips. “You’re fucking enjoying this!”
“You,” Castiel whispers, closing his eyes. “It’s you. Underneath everything, you’re still Dean.”
1. Dean's dialogue is AMAZING
2. Castiel just admitted his love for Dean... and that's weird. XD

Need I even say what I think of thrusting?
"Everything goes black for a while, and when he comes to his senses he’s in Castiel’s arms and the angel is brushing gentle fingers through his hair." After the sex, everything goes from "oooh" to "awww" and Castiel is like an embodiment of "aww". Awwwwww ^^

Okay, Strangeandcharm has Dean down PAT. Even after this entire thing, it is ALL about Sam. Castiel let himself be used and gave up his blood so that Dean could realize that it was all about SAM. This fic hints at NO attraction or attachment to Castiel, for Dean it's still all about Sam. And that's excellent.

OKAY. That's it. I hope you all enjoyed it. I don't really need feedback per se, because I can't exactly edit my thought patterns and that is WHAT THIS IS, but let me know if you want to see more.
