A/N: Happy Birthday Billy Boyd!!
Disclaimer: not true at all.
Their friends wouldn’t have believed it.
Not that Dom was asking Billy to sing-he did that quite often, with mixed results-but that Dom was asking Billy to sing not some random pop song but an old, almost hymnlike tune. Billy had balked, but now… Now Dom was nearly begging for it, and Billy couldn’t refuse; he didn’t have it in him.
So Billy closed his eyes and let the words and the notes come to the forefront of his memory. And when he opened his mouth and let the lyrics tumble uncertainly from his tongue, Dom smiled serenely and sighed. Dom’s reaction gave Billy confidence, and as the song continued, he became less aware and more at ease, with his own abilities and with the unfamiliar lyrics.
Billy’s voice gained strength as the song reached its peak. He felt an energy flow through him and he gave himself over to the music. When he next looked over at Dom, Billy saw that his friend’s eyes were closed and his cheeks were wet with tears. The sight almost stole his voice, but the song wouldn’t release him, not yet. He softened the last words of the song as it drew to a close. Billy hummed the last few bars and at long last fell silent, awaiting Dom’s response.
Dom let out a heavy breath and smiled. Everything about him seemed relaxed, right down to his clothes. He opened his arms and the two men stepped towards each other, seeking comfort and reassurance.
“So beautiful, Billy,” Dom murmured into Billy’s neck. “Beautiful.”
Billy pushed away and held Dom at arm’s length, studying his face solemnly. He gently cupped Dom’s cheek and ran his thumb through the faint tear tracks.
“Why that song, Dommeh?” he asked quietly, unwilling to break the atmosphere that had settled around them.
Dom looked down at his feet briefly, then back to Billy’s face. “It reminds me of home.” He sighed and bit his lip before continuing, “You remind me of home.”
Billy nodded, pulled Dom back against his chest, and kissed Dom’s forehead. He tangled his fingers through the soft, short hair at the back of Dom’s skull and held him tightly.
“You remind me of home, Dommeh, in a way that not even Maggie does,” Billy said after a moment’s silence.
“Then I guess there’s no reason for us to be homesick, is there.”
A/N 2: I didn't have a song in mind for this, but if it makes you think of one, please do tell! :)
