disclaimer: this is all completely untrue and a product of my imagination.
feedback: is love. and it keeps me writing. :)
a/n: believe it or not, this was inspired by watching The Godfather. O.o and it's not as angsty as the summary might suggest.
Dom woke up slowly, but, clinging to the fringes of his dreams, stayed completely still with his eyes closed. As his consciousness grew, the dreams skittered away and Dom gave in to the inevitability of morning. He opened his eyes, then rolled over to look at his alarm clock.
His gaze found not the alarm clock, but a peacefully sleeping Billy, whose arm, Dom now realized, was draped over his own naked hip. Dom’s eyes widened.
Not good, Dom thought frantically. In fact, very bad. Worse than waking up to a bleeding horse head. He grimaced at the image. Well, okay, not quite that bad. Billy’s certainly easier on the eyes. But still bad.
Dom licked his chapped lips; the foul taste in his mouth told him that he hadn’t brushed his teeth before bed. He carefully slid out of Billy’s unconscious embrace and stood up beside the bed, taking stock of the room. His and Billy’s clothes were scattered across the floor and several items had fallen off the top of Dom’s dresser.
Dom couldn’t remember anything of the previous night’s activities. He wished Billy would wake up, but dreaded the moment that happened. Either Billy would, like Dom, have no memory of whatever happened, or he would know exactly what happened and have one of two reactions. Either Billy would be… Dom struggled to think of an appropriate word; ‘happy’, he supposed, fit well enough. Or Billy would be disgusted, angry, apologetic, regretful - these words were much easier for Dom to think of.
Billy made a sleepy, wordless noise and pulled the blanket up to his chin, presumably to compensate for the loss of Dom’s body heat. As he realized this, Dom looked down at himself and thought vaguely that standing naked in the middle of his bedroom probably wasn’t the best sight to give Billy when he woke.
Dom quickly kicked Billy’s clothes into a pile on the floor, whilst kicking aside his own clothes, then dug around in his closet for a clean t-shirt and jeans. Items assembled, Dom twisted the door handle and opened the door millimeter by careful millimeter to ensure that the notorious hinges wouldn’t squeak. Rather than waste time closing the door by the same method, Dom tiptoed down the hall to the bathroom and ran into Elijah, literally.
“Ow, Dom, watch where-”
“Shh-shh-shh,” Dom interrupted, pressing a finger to his lips. Elijah was freshly showered and fully clothed and - Dom did a double-take - in his house.
“What’re you doing here?” he whispered accusingly.
“Woke up here. Orli’s passed out on your sofa.”
“What did we do last night?”
“I dunno. Viggo gave us that shit at the party last night, but that’s all I can remember. I didn’t know we wouldn’t remember anything when it wore off.”
Elijah’s voice had risen to a normal speaking level and Dom shushed him again.
“What? Orli wouldn’t wake up if you shouted in his ear.”
“Billy’s asleep. I’m not sure if I want him to wake up yet,” Dom explained. “I need a shower and a paracetamol, because I’m getting a headache from all this madness.”
Elijah took a step back and his eyes raked Dom’s body. “Did you guys… y’know…”
“Shut it, you. Just don’t wake him up, okay?”
Dom waited until Elijah nodded before sidling past him into the bathroom. Elijah’s gaze jumped from Dom to Dom’s open bedroom door and the occupied bed beyond it.
“Shit, you did, didn’t you?” Elijah hissed, following Dom into the bathroom. He reached back to close and lock the door. “You guys finally did it, didn’t you?”
Dom gaped at his friend. “Jesus Christ, Lij, can’t I have a shower first? I’m fucking naked at the fucking moment!”
“So get in the fucking shower!” Elijah said excitedly. He pushed Dom into the shower stall and slid the door shut; Dom twisted on the taps until steam billowed up from the stall.
“I can’t believe it. It’s about time, man.”
“What?”
“I said, I can’t believe it; it’s about time,” Elijah said again, louder.
“No, I heard you, I just mean, why can’t you believe it and what do you mean, ‘it’s about time’?”
“Well… You’re crazy about Billy, aren’t you?”
Dom sighed and said, “Yeah…” Some things are easier to admit when one isn’t looking at one’s companion, Dom thought, then continued, “I think I’m in love with him.”
“So that’s what I mean. It’s about time you acted on it, man! Congrats.”
Dom rinsed the shampoo from his hair and turned off the water. Elijah handed him a towel as he stepped out of the stall.
“The thing is, Lij… I’m not sure I did, really. I mean, I guess I did sleep with him, but I don’t remember anything about it. And I don’t know if that’s what he wants, y’know? Hell, we mightn’t have done anything last night except sleep for all I know.”
Elijah grinned and crossed his arms over his chest. “Dommie, I hate to break it to you, but guys don’t usually ‘just sleep’ naked in the same bed with each other. Girls probably don’t either, but personally, I’d love to see that happen.”
“Wanker.”
“Sadly, yes. But not you, apparently.”
“Elijah…” Dom warned.
“All right, all right,” Elijah said, raising his hands in a peace gesture. “So, what’s the plan?”
“Um.”
“All right, I’ll tell you the plan. Get dressed, go in there, wake Billy up if he’s not awake already, and find out his side of the story. Then live happily ever after.”
“Great plan. Thanks ever so,” Dom said sarcastically. “How am I supposed to ask him how he feels about shagging me?”
“Dom, if he’s in your bed, naked, I imagine the conversation will get around to that rather quickly, don’t you?”
Dom rolled his eyes. Elijah handed him his t-shirt; Dom pulled it on and sighed at his reflection in the mirror. “Here goes nothin’,” he said, affecting an American accent.
Billy was awake when Dom got back to the bedroom, but only just. Dom bit his lip nervously as he walked in and shut the door behind him.
“Morning, Bill.”
“I’m in your bed.”
“Yes you are.”
“I’m naked.”
“That you are, Bill.”
“You’re…”
“I just had a shower.”
“Right. So were you…”
“In here, in bed, with you, naked? Yes, I was.”
“And last night?”
“No idea.”
Billy nodded and didn’t answer. Dom’s eyes roved around the room apprehensively.
“What, uh… What do you want to have happened last night, Bills?” Dom said finally, when the silence got to be unbearable.
Again, Billy didn’t answer.
“Billy…” Dom began slowly. “Whatever we did last night, if anything did happen, then I’m glad it was with you, because… I wanted it to be with you. Before, I mean. And now, too. I just… Fuck it. I’m falling in love with you.”
Billy’s mouth opened very slightly and he cocked his head to the side. “You’re… You wanted this?”
Dom nodded.
“You’re in love with me?”
Dom swallowed, then nodded.
“I think I may love you too, a bit.”
Dom broke out into a wide grin that he couldn’t hide even if he had wanted to. Billy matched his smile and leaned forward until their lips met in an unhurried, somewhat chaste kiss.

“Billy, I don’t think this stuff is working.”
“What’s it supposed to be doing?”
“I dunno, but I don’t feel any different from how I normally feel.”
“How do you normally feel?”
“Um… Tired, usually, because I’m not really a morning person and I hate getting up at 4am. But also hyper, because I get that way sometimes. Happy, and lucky, because we’re in fucking New Zealand. And in love with you, because you’re sexy and funny and beautiful.”
“Really, Dom?”
“Really, Billy. Wait, what?”
“That’s kind of funny, because I usually feel the same way. Except not as hyper, I don’t think.”
“Really, Billy?”
“Really, Dom.”
“D’you wanna shag, then?”
“Tonight? Now?”
“Yeah.”
“Sure.”
“Okay, then.”
