My second class was cancelled today, and I feel like I can actually relax for the first time since like, last Tuesday or something. So I'm going to kinda summarize some things that happened, and post some stuff that I really should've posted a long time ago. (seriously, this is an insanely long post. like, really really really long. longer than many of my fics kind of long. >.<)
The weekend Career Exploration class:
My Meyers-Briggs results were spot on: Introvert-Sensing (and a little bit Intuitive)-Thinking-Judging, or, ISTJ.
The Strong Interest Inventory was slightly less accurate, but not totally. I got things like Programming & Information Systems, Writing & Mass Communication, Computer Hardware & Electronics, Office Management, and Visual Arts & Designs. Pretty much right, but as it went on, it listed careers like translator and librarian; administrative assistant, computer scientist, software developer, and other such things. Which I would probably be good at, and which suit my type/personality, but those aren't really things that I actually enjoy a lot.
But then I took the COPS test, which turned out more to my interests. It was also very cool how it's organized. My biggies there were Communication, Arts (Professional and Skilled), and Clerical (*shrugs*). Some of the specific careers I got out of that are: writer (yay!), editor (also yay!), film director (another yay!), and other things like proofreader and stage director and layout artist. I was more happy with the COPS results than the Strong results, but that's why you take more than one test, isn't it?
Other interesting things from that class are just things people said. One thing; there was a group of girls, two sets of cousins plus one extra (totaling five friends), and they were about a year or two older than me, and they were also homeschooled. During one discussion, the class was talking about Americans learning (or not learning) other languages, while most Europeans learn two or three, including English. One of the girls said that it was because English was the most widely spoken. (this isn't an exact quote, by the way) "You wouldn't learn something that not many people speak, like Swahili or some African dialect. Like Latin, nobody speaks--" "Except homeschoolers," another one of them broke in. One of the other people in the class asked why homeschoolers learned Latin. The reply? "Because they don't have anyone else to talk to." "It's like our own secret code." LOL
Also, one of the girls is an artist, and she was really cute. I don't know why, exactly, but she just looked adorable all the time. When it came time to put together our collages (mine used all pictures from Vogue magazine - I'll explain in a minute), her's was completely drawn with no photos or magazine rip-outs whatsoever, and it was amazing! We didn't have a lot of time to work on these, so that just made it even more impressive.
My collage, as I said, used pictures from Vogue. It was pure chance that I got mis-mailed the magazine the day before the class, otherwise I wouldn't've had any good magazines that I was willing to rip up. When we were all looking at each other's posters, I thought it was very interesting how most of the extroverts had a lot of pictures of people and just lots of busy pictures full stop, and most of the introverts, while they had pictures of people also, had pictures of mostly just one or two people, whereas the extroverts had entire groups of people. It was just cool to kind of psychoanalyze everything like that.
Now, for some other class-related things:
My script pages got returned today with the note: Perfect formatting, strong dialogue, great job! \o/ Pretty happy about that.
My video class is boring, and yet, falling apart. My group (of three people including me) emailed each other some preliminary ideas, but no other contact has been made. My grade for the midterm was horrible, all because the teacher said it was going to be multiple choice and it wasn't. If it had been multiple choice instead of short-answer, I would've probably gotten everything right. I can't just pull these terms out of thin air! Especially after I've been specifically told that I wouldn't have to! *pouts*
Cinema class is... annoying, at least for the moment. First, the instructor says we're going to take a field trip to Alpha Cine, which is a film processing lab in Seattle. Yay, right? I thought so. Then when it comes time to schedule this field trip, he says, "Tuesday night good for everyone?" Most people said yes, some said no, and that they just wouldn't come. The times got changed around a bit. More people said yes. I said, "I have class that night at five thirty." Nobody listened. At all. I'm not sure if anyone even heard me. I'm not even sure if CuteGuy, who was sitting next to me, heard me. I went home and was very upset that I probably wouldn't get to go on this kinda rare field trip.
Then, on the class message board, the instructor posts the date and time, then asks for everyone to say if they can make it. (A bit more formal than just shouting it out in class.) People post replies saying yes or no, and a few people (including me) ask questions. Nobody answers, nobody replies to those specifically.
Finally, today, I got really annoyed. The instructor posted a message saying class is cancelled today because we're going to have a field trip tomorrow, and there's also another field trip on Wednesday, which hasn't been mentioned before today. The only problem is that my Script class is directly before this class, so how was I going to get that message? *kicks things* Luckily for me, Superman from my group called me and said that class was cancelled. He didn't explain much, though, and I didn't really trust secondhand information anyway. Then I see that the TA has taped up a sign on the door saying class is cancelled. Also, apparently I'm the only one in my group that knows CuteGuy's cell number, because whenever any of them call me, they're like, "Hey, by the way, can you call [CuteGuy] and tell him? I don't have his number..." Not like he answers his stupid phone anyway...
Which brings me to my group. We've really got to reshoot some stuff before next week, but no plans have been made, no messages have been posted, and none of my questions have been answered (again). I love working with these guys, but sometimes I think it might be better if I was working alone. Same opinion (or nearly) about the video group; I'd rather just do whatever I'm going to do by myself than try to coordinate something that'll turn out half-assed and boring.
No real segue into this next bit. First, I'll explain what happened today, then I'll lay out my problem.
Spring Quarter registration (for me) is tomorrow at 3pm (which is, incidentally, at the same time as the field trip, but my brain can't really handle that at the moment, so, moving on...). To register for classes, I have to have a form turned in at least two days before the reg. date (which would've been Sunday). But, of course, school isn't open on Sunday, so I'd need to have it in my Friday of last week. Not possible, because of co-op. Thursday? Well, I don't go to school on Thursday, but I guess I could do if I had to. On... Monday (I think), I called the school to ask about my form and to complain about the whole library issue that go resolved already. They said yes, I did need the form. I thought, "okay, well I'll get it signed tomorrow, then have it in by Wednesday or Thursday, then I'm in the clear." I call the high school to get it signed? They're fucking closed for winter break all week. >.< So then I called the lady back and explained my situation, and she pretty much just said fine, whatever, as long as you have it in by Tuesday. (haha, I just wrote a whole paragraph on an issue that got resolved before it even became a major issue.) The bit of this that's relevant is this: I have to tell the person, when I turn in the form, that I couldn't get it signed last week and that's why it's late.
Anyway, my plan today was to turn it in before class. But for reasons unknown to me (it was my sister's fault), I was running a bit late. I ran up to the office and... nobody's at the desk. Well that's just great. I run (well, jog) back all the way across campus to where my class is and get there just in time. Whew. Class was cool, talked to the prof about the class he's teaching next quarter, then I run run run (jog, really) back to turn in the form. Except I'm kind of an idiot and got a bit lost on the way. >.< The sad part is, it's really not that hard to find. Anyway, at this time, I didn't know the next class was cancelled, so I'm thinking I'm really pressed for time. So I go up the stairs, down the stairs, around the outside, through a few hallways, and finally I'm in the right place. Up the stairs again, then I talk to the person at the desk (she's there, yay!), and she says that I need a second copy. Copier's downstairs. Run downstairs, look around. Where the fuck is the copier? When I finally find it, I pay 10 cents when it already had 90 cents in it, so I have a small *facepalm* moment, then get the copy and run back up, turn it in, then run out, not getting lost this time. I pull out my phone to call and say I got everything done and to check the time and hey! I have a voicemail message! It's Superman, telling me there's no class today. By this time, I'm back in the other building where my class is. *collapses*
Side note: while waiting for my ride home, I had time to read a bit more of The Stand, which I'm enjoying thus far.
So, my problem. My initial plan for this quarter was to take these classes, listed with their credits:
(5) Movie Making - which uses a script from my script class. sadly, not mine.
(5) some kind of Essay Writing - which I need before I start to write my college application essays.
(5) Psychology - which was mostly just interesting to me and would also fulfill a social studies credit.
(2) and another weekend Human Development class, Group Relationship Dynamics or some such thing.
Total of 17 credits. I can take up to 18 before the highschool doesn't pay for it anymore.
But! When I talked to the prof, I asked him about his Media & Messages class, which analyzes specific aspects of movies and the subtleties of things like use of color and light, sound, and angles. Very interesting, right? Right. The thing is, this class is only available for this quarter right now and the one coming up, so if I didn't take it during the spring, I'd have to wait until next year before it's even an option again.
So I put that on my list. If I do that, I'd drop the 2 credit, since I was basically just using it to fill in anyway. Even so, I'd be up to 20, so I (meaning my parents) would have to pay for the last two credits, since the highschool doesn't cover it.
The Psych is available anytime. The Movie Making has to be this quarter, the Media & Messages has to be this quarter (if I'm going to take it), and the English really really should be this quarter.
But I'm not sure if I want to drop the Psych and wait until later, because then I'll be piling up my heavy classes like PreCalc and Foreign Language and stuff.
The question is, 1) should I even take Media & Messages? 2) If I took all four 5 credit classes, would I be able to handle the workload? and finally, 3) if I took all four, would it be worth it to have to pay?
Movie Making and (probably) Media & Messages don't sound like they're going to have much homework. Movie Making will probably meet outside of class time though, for filming.
English is going to be a lot of writing, and probably a fair amount of reading.
Psych (I've heard) is a lot of reading, but I'm not sure if it'll be a lot of writing or not.
So really, it'd just be the English and Psych for my homework load, plus maybe a paper or two for Media & Messages. I think I'd be able to handle it. I think. Whatever I do, I have to decide by 3pm tomorrow, and probably earlier if I'm going to try to do that stupid field trip.
It sounds like I'm leaning towards just taking all four classes. *sigh* I just don't know, though.
A couple of fic-related things:
How did I not know about this story before? So very guh.
Exposure -
kiltsandlollies annnd,
legomyarrow updated The Flag again! \o/ I haven't read it yet, though.
About my own fic; I can't believe how common being late on the chapters is becoming for me. I'm sorrrrry! I really am working on it, really. In between running around for classes and not getting enough sleep, I actually do write a bit!
*sigh* That's it for now. (You're all thinking "about bloody time!" right? Sorry.) When I'm not as exhausted, I'm going to post some geeky battery voltage graphs that
bloodrayveness wanted to see.
Oh wait, one more thing. I just came across Sean Astin's short film,
The Long and Short of it, on Youtube today! I was really glad, because I hadn't had the chance to see it before. *g* I think it's really well done. Especially since I now have a newfound appreciation for silent, five minute long movies. lol
