Excluding that... well... as far as overcoming troubled-trips goes, Alysheba's Derby comes to mind. Afleet Alex in the Preakness is kind of a gimmie. Invasor's Donn.
I'm not entirely clear why this race came to mind, but I think I'm going to go with it. Not really a troubled trip, but talk about a horse who looks like he's gotten himself into an impossible situation on the turn. Too much ground to make up. Too classy of a field to catch. Not enough time to do it.
Or, ya' know, you could just win for fun instead, I guess.
