Chanyeol liked to believe that everything was what he wished for but things didn't work like that, it never did.
As Baekhyun's fingers inevitably tangle together with Chanyeol's brown hair, he couldn't help but imagine that Baekhyun that loved him. That with that gesture, as they brought their faces closer to each other till their foreheads touched, Baekhyun felt the same way. But he knew that behind those bright eyes, the latter felt nothing. But he wanted to enjoy this moment, to delve in it, at least for a little while.
It was moments like these which Chanyeol cherished, where he allowed himself to believe that he was living a beautiful story. Not a fairytale; just one with a happily ever after. Fairytales were hard to come by nowadays and he couldn’t want to hope for anymore when in reality he had nothing more than a casual friendship.
All he wished for and wanted was a love, a small flame that had flickered alight in his heart ever since a year ago when Baekhyun first stepped into the training room and was introduced to the team. The moment their eyes met for the first time and even though Baekhyun looked away first, Chanyeol was unable to lose his gaze on him.
Now they faced each other, foreheads together, faces and lips barely ten centimetres away. His face still cracked into the widest of grins as he imagined whispered confessions, genteel greetings of love. He tried to make himself look genuinely happy, and he was really, just that there was still the painful truth nagging at his heart. That Baekhyun will never, ever look at him the same way that Chanyeol would him.
Chanyeol hid behind his forced smile even whilst Baekhyun pulled away. He watched the other walk away to mingle with the other members. The scream of a thousand fans was loud, noisy and deafening. Yet among them he could still hear it; a soft sound. It was the dull shattering of a heart.
a/n: i swear this was meant to be a fluff but it turned out this way, sorry about that.
