All Whites 1, Bahrain 0.
The attendance record for the Cake Tin (aka Westpac stadium) in Wellington was broken last night - by FOOTBALL! And to thank their loyal fans, the All Whites put on a spectacular game which saw them win. That means we're going to South Africa! We're going to the 2010 World Cup!
The atmosphere right from the start, before the teams came out was huge. You could tell there was a massive home advantage, there were only a tiny handful of red Bahrain supporters amidst a sea of 35,194 (if I recall the screen correctly) roaring All White supporters. And it was massive. The crowd went mental when Fallon scored an awesome header in the first half. The crowd went mental when Paston made a magnificent penalty spot save to keep the score at 1-0. And the stadium shook like it never has before when the ref blew the final whistle to send the All Whites to South Africa next year.
To think, this is what it's like every weekend in places like England.
I want more.
