(no subject)
First thought upon returning from Gangwha this evening: My, but Gimpo suddenly seems so cosmopolitan.
I slept late again and, again, didn't get out till around three. That was probably part of why this particular trip was made of fail.
Another part: There is more of Ganghwa than I expected, and all the touristy things are much farther from the bus depot than I'd anticipated.
Third part: I was a little more tired (okay, a lot more tired) than I'd realized after yesterday, and I really didn't feel like walking very fast or very far. I kind of dragged my way around town and kept my nose in my guidebook-- the map in it is kind of simplified, so getting around is tricky.
Final part: The weather was not particularly friendly; apparently Ganghwa Island is not nice this time of year.
So: looks like I'll be trying that particular trip again later, preferably with company. Oh, well.
Postscripted fifth part: I should have planned the whole trip better. Never having been to the area, I couldn't picture very well how it would go, so I didn't do much in the way of planning. So, for tomorrow: plan.
1. Morning: Go to Changdeokgung (and Biwon), finally. Enjoy tour, and take many pictures.
2. Myeongdong Cathedral.
3. Go to Insa-dong and find one of these famous "traditional teahouses" I keep reading about.
4. ...and then?? I was thinking I'd go to Seoul Nori Madang-- the square where you can hear traditional music in the afternoons "Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays," according to my guidebook, but then I realized that Chuseok is actually on Tuesday and, therefore, tomorrow is not in fact a holiday here. Hmm. Might go to one or another of the little "cultural village" installations that are supposed to be here, and look around. Might find another park and take another walk, but it's getting a little old. Might go to Itaewon and buy some shoes or something. I'm starting to really, really wish I'd planned this better, but what can one do? At least there's Lunar New Year for do-overs. :)
