Blatant fear of tattoos manifesting in dream sequences?

Heh, nah. I'd love to get a tattoo, but as I've yet to decide on a design I liked for more than a couple of weeks, I figure I'm not quite ready yet.

Probably I'm subconsciously telling myself that I'm about to start on something that seems really cool, but for which I'm not really ready. I can think of a few possibilities, and I'm determinedly ignoring them for the most part. -_-;

Note about tattoos: I'll tell you from personal experience, do NOT get a tattoo that you don't want people to ask you about all the time. It's also best to have some concise explanation of it's meaning.

Ah, gotta love denial.

Hah, I believe it. I was planning to get a little black snake on the back of my left ring finger, but was told a) that it would be ridiculous to pay full-tattoo base-price for such a small design, and b) that hand tattoos tend to wear off, anyway. I've got ambitions of being in opera, too, and so I don't want to get anything that would interfere with costuming. *shrug* I've got plenty of time, so I'm not sweating it.

Denial may be a river in Egypt, but I'm pretty sure I live by one of its tributaries. *tries to be clever*

Hand tattoos are very painful, but I don't know about the wearing off thing. A guy I know got his wife's name tattooed on his ring finger-under his wedding ring. It looks good. And you can cover that up with make-up... if that's what you want. Though, some artists won't do them...

Aww, you succeeded.

^__^

I haven't quite given up on my little-snake-tattoo idea, so I may still go for that one. I'm assuming you've already got some tattoos, then? Just going out on a limb. O_o

Yep, three... all in the last year. Oh, and you know how they say it's addictive? Um, yeah, it is. You leave the shop thinking about what you want next... mainly, I think, because you have to sit in there so long, and all you're thinking about is tattoos.

But, anyway, I have, in order I got them:
-the kanji (Chinese/Japanese) character for moon on my ankle
-a strawberry with my name beside it in Japanese
-an outline of the state of West Virginia with a blue-and-gold WV over top of it.

Plus you get to stare at all the tattoo designs on the wall-- though I admit in some cases that wouldn't be as tempting.

Do you speak/read Japanese? I've wanted to for a long time, but had to drop the class the one time I signed up for it because it conflicted with a requirement.

Assuming you're from WV, then? ^_- The design would certainly be an interesting choice if you weren't.

There's some breath-taking tattoo art out there, though.

A little bit. I had a Japanese roommate in college, and a bunch of Japanese friends. I decided to take Japanese I & II my sophmore year, but I later found out that those classes had conflicted with a requirement, and because I took them, I didn't get to graduate a semester early like I wanted to. ^_^ Odd, huh?

Yep, even though I live in the Daytona area in Florida for school, I am a proud WV girl. ^_^

I've been through-- West Virginia's a beautiful state. I go to school in the mountain part of North Carolina, and I love it, but it doesn't quite compare.

I probably could have graduated a semester or two early if I'd made it a priority, but I've really been enjoying the whole college experience. The school was paying for eight semesters, so I figured I'd take my time and have fun.

Which puts me where I am now, about to start semester number nine on my own (borrowed) dollar. O_o

I've got a friend who's studying to be a tattoo artist. Very edgy medium, tattoos, but I imagine it can be incredibly rewarding.

Oh, really? My roommate went to North Carolina Central University... is that anywhere near you? Her family still lives up there, so at spring break I drove across the state so I could drop her off and stay at her parents' overnight.

I thought I wanted to graduate early, but, in retrospect, I'm glad I didn't.

I'm in my second year of post-grad on my own (borrowed) dollar, myself. ^_^

I wish I had a friend who was a tattoo artist... I find them intimidating, and I have rather elaborate plans for my inking future. ^_^!

Actually, NCCU is about half an hour from where I live when I'm not in school. My summer job has (up until my last day which was today YESSS!, been at the same place where my mom worked, so I've ridden by central most days this summer. ^_^

It was good of you to give your roommate a ride-- that's got to be, what, seven hours? O_o Oh, from Florida, not WV-- but that would be even longer, then, wouldn't it? Or are you talking about your undergrad roommate?

I'm sure if you start hanging around art schools you can find any number of aspiring inkers to be friends with. ^_^ How many you'd want to let near your skin, of course, might be a different matter...

Hooray! No more summer job!

It was my current roommate... it added a few hours to my trip (it's about a 14-15 hour trip from FL straight through to WV,) but it's no big deal when you get a free place to crash in return, and we got to save on gas.

Hahaha, too true! Just because they can do it, doesn't mean they can do it well... ^_^;;;

(Ha-- and now the other summer job is done with, so all I've got left to do is pack. ^_^)

Yes, the car-pooling is a good, good thing. (Did a good deal of it until I got my license last summer.)

Yuck, packing. I hate packing.

Yeah, and then you're not by yourself in the car, either. ^_^

Yes... *sigh* At least I've only got to drive five hours-- I can't imagine 16 or 17!
