Harry, Carrie and Garp

The coolest thing about yesterday was that I got the tickets at pretty much the last minute - I had no idea that the event was even going on until I got the call.

Three of my friends were already going and there were extra tickets floating around their office, so they called me to see if I wanted to go. Once I found out I had nothing critical going on, I jumped on that ticket like nobody's business.

We met at the worst Barnes and Noble I've ever been to in my life. The poor store has no personality and it a MESS. Anyway, not the point. We drove up to the city, had a drink, got some pizza, and then got on line at Radio City.

Whoopi Goldberg opened the event - she was very funny and really cool. She introduced Cathy Bates, who introduced Stephen King.

Stephen King read a bit from Desperation (?), the pie eating contest thing with all the vomit that was in the movie "Stand by Me." The Lardass thing. He was really cool, and really smart.

Then Andre somethingorother (I had never heard of him, honestly), came out to introduce John Irving. He read a bit from A Prayer for Owen Meaney - the part where Owen basically shakes up the Christmast Pageant by refusing to be the Angel, and changing everything around. That was really cool, and makes me want to give Irving a second chance. I never could finish Owen Meaney, but hearing it from the author was inspiring.

Then, Jon Stewart (!!!!one!!) came out to introduce JK Rowling. He was so funny and humble and sweet. He said something like "I really don't know how I got so lucky to do this, but I'm one of her biggest fans and I'm so excited."

So then, she comes out, and she looks amazing! The first thing she said was "The best part about this whole event is that there's no pressure. You know, they bring out these two amateur writers to do a little bit so now you're all ready for the real talent. Of course, I do have the best shoes." She was so nervous and in awe of who she was sharing the stage with. She really did have awesome shoes. They were these gold strappy sandal dealies and the straps were snakes!

She read from HBP - the bit where Harry and Dumbledore are in the pensieve watching young Dumbledore go to the orphanage to tell Tom he's been accepted to Hogwarts. She did little voices and everything.

Then she took questions.

The first was "What would Hermione see in the Mirror of Erised?" She was very impressed - never been asked that question, and she said that Hermione would probably see her, Ron and Harry all safe, Voldemort dead, and herself cuddling with... a boy. Heh.

Then a girl asked why Olivander decided the three wand cores he uses are the strongest, which she basically said was because those were her three favourite in her list.

Somebody asked if Draco would redeem himself, and she said that Harry himself thought that Draco wouldn't have killed DD even if he had an infinite amount of time, and that we would have to wait and see if that meant anything in terms of Draco redeeming himself.

None of the others really stuck in my mind except the one about being a writer in the age of the internet and how she has to stop herself from going to Amazon and reading bad reviews, and how hilarious she finds the shipping wars, and how much some of the pairings make her laugh because of how odd they are.

I quite literally spent the entire event with my eyes wide open so as not to miss a moment. I was in complete awe and amazement.
