yeah... well I went to see that apartment I was talking about. My mom is still sick (my poor mommy :( ) so I went over to my sister's to ask her to come with me. I also tell her that it'd be good to leave her two kids (ages 4 and 1) at home. She brings them anyway!! So I'm about 5 minutes late getting there, and he's showing it to another lady, which he then excuses her and him outside so we can look around. It was NICE. Roomy, perfect for someone just starting out. Maybe a little work done on the outlets, cause some of them were loose, but aside from that it looked good at that point. My 4 year old nephew's acting up, running around, trying to go to the upstairs apartments, and the other one's whining. Anyways, the guy comes back in, and asks if I have any questions after looking around. Justin/stratus, had helped me out with a list of questions to ask, but most of them had already been answered during the phone conversation, so all I really had to ask was about the utilities and other services, and he explained all that.
So anyways, he tells me when we go outside to fill out an application that he's got "nice tenants living here, and he wants to have a decent person move in". That tells me right there he's not real happy with me. And then after I finish telling him my info for the application, he basically tells me "well I've got some people that got here before you, and god knows how many others coming, so you're kinda at the bottom of the list right now, but that doesn't mean it can't happen" then he goes on to say how he was thinking if he had any other 1 bedroom apartments available. He thanked me for coming by and said to give him 24 hours to hear something.
Sure that's all fine and dandy... except he never asked for a # to reach me by. I had told him I lived with my mom, and he has her #, so hopefully if he paid attention he'd put two and two together. But if he does call to tell me I got it, I'll really be in shock, cause I don't expect him to rent it to me. Why? A fucking image. He's got "professional" people living there...he kept reiterating that point several times thru the whole meeting. He's got "a judge upstairs, a news reporter across the hall, and another professional woman upstairs". Looks like he wants someone that'll fit into a "professional" image. Sorry pal, but I pack boxes for a living, and I'm damn good at it, I'm sorry if that doesn't fit the fucking image of your happy little apartment building.
Damn, sorry but that's got me really hot now... I've been stewing on it all night at work, which sucked cause I'm coming down with a cold and the Tylenol Daytime Cold I got sucks ass. Anyways, there was another number I had found earlier today that I had to call after 6pm, so I call on my break at 7:40, and get a young sounding woman:
"hello?"
"yeah, I'm calling about your ad in the umm..paper for the.. trailer" (I stutter a little if I don't know who I'm talking to)
(attitude)"can you call back in 45 minutes?"
"no, I'll be..I'll be back off of my lunch break then..."
"k bye" CLICK
I didn't even get a chance to ask if it'd be alright to call on my last break at quarter to 10pm. That made me feel even worse than I already did due to the other shit thru the day. Oh, and you wanna know somethin' funny? I didn't eat before I went to the apartment meeting, so after I left there I stopped for some Chinese, since it was right down the street from work. You know what my fortune said?
"Your determination will bring you much success"
HA, yeah, apparently I'm determined to get hung up on...
but anyway... there was a sign for an apartment I didn't notice til I was driving to the meeting today, that's not too far from here. I got the number on my way home tonight...I'll give that a whirl tomorrow, the sign said to call for an appointment, and that it'd be available Sept 5th. Several co-workers have been giving me suggestions to places to check out as well, so I think I'm just gonna look thru the yellow pages and check for any of the ones they mentioned, and where they're located. I'm also gonna keep checking the newspapers classified ads online. The dude from work kept telling me "it'll be alright, don't let this one thing bring you down" and I told him I was alright, that I just didn't feel good (which I didn't) but shit...it does bug me. A person's gonna judge based on job status who fits best in their apartment? I've been told all night that was descrimination, and I shoulda cussed the guy out. I'm not one to start a confrontation, though...
Yeah, well I think that's about it from today's events... maybe I'll have better luck tomorrow... guess I better make that Chinese determination work, hehe...
