Nicknames

Funky, Fei. They are my most common current nicknames. Except when certain people try to call me Funky or Fei, I have trouble responding, or it just sounds really weird. Basically, I expect the exclamation, "Funky!" to be attached to Brianne's voice, Nanny's voice, Arjun's voice, Genna's voice, etc. etc. "Fei" has to be attached to Dhruv's voice, Payvand's voice, etc.

I told one of my prefrosh roommates that she could call me "Fei" if it was easier to remember/say. I wasn't quite used to it when she actually tried calling my name. I decided later that I won't tell people my nicknames until we get to know each other better, or at least tell them my various nicknames but insist that they call me Fangfei at least in the beginning. Or else, we might get situations like this:

Person I just met at MIT: FEI!
Me: *staring elsewhere*
Person I just met at MIT: FEIII!
Me: ...MIT has really weird architecture...
Person I just met at MIT: *taps me on shoulder*
Me: Oh, wait, you just called my name, didn't you?

I have a bunch of other weird nicknames, the weirdest being "toast of a leg." Brittany occasionally calls me "double-f" or "f-squared." I think "f-squared" would be a cool nickname to have at MIT. After all, f2 is so appropriate for MIT. Well, let's see if I actually respond to it first after attaching it to familiar voices.
