So that I don't get my blogger card taken away, here is my obligatory I Have Just Finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and I Can Now Stop Avoiding the Internet for Fear Someone Will Spoil It For Me post.
So, er, I have just finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and I can now stop avoiding the internet for fear someone will spoil it for me. It was...satisfying, I believe is the word. I have never been a raving Potter fiend, but I like the books. They're ripping good yarns from a carefully developed universe (something I always appreciate) and the last one is a fitting tribute to the rest of them. Several of my pet theories were proven right, my favorite character was given the treatment I felt he/she deserved, and the time I spent in fancy dress at the Potter pre-release ball was well-spent. My heart goes out to J.K. Rowling, though-- I can't imagine how odd it must be to have finished the immensely successful saga of a character you've been developing for (apparently) seventeen years. Here's hoping that one day I'll know exactly how that feels.
In non-Potter-related news, I've been keeping myself busy with all sorts of cultural endeavors-- the recent orchestral Decemberists concert, opera nights with KT, cooking with Flo, our impromptu Latin study group, and a book club for Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid. I'm submitting some of my writing to various publishy-types. (More on several of these topics later.) On the other hand, I still live in my parents' basement and have not yet found a job. You win some, you lose some.
