*NOTE* the following was not meant and is not intended to disrespect or contradict any religion of any form... even though it may seem it? haha, read it anyway... yell me if ya want! i would looove it!
Marx once said that “religion is the opiate of the people”
Well, lets just assume that Marx is 100% correct… now, if you please, allow me to dissect his statement…
Religion is a specific system of belief, worship, or praise that often times involves a code of ethics based upon or centered around, most often, a higher Archie such as a god or gods and in some cases flourishes with the absence of a higher Archie (yes, atheism is a religion!)
Opiate is anything that quiets, soothes, or deadens.
And people, well that means me and you!
So with just this very basic, literal information one has thus far concluded that a non-scientific accusation (and yes I refer to religion as an “accusation” due to the lack of proof that any has yet to provide) alters one’s perception to the actual life they lead. Religion is somewhat, in a sense, to that of a mother and her child. It silences people where any ignorance is present. A baby cries because it has to allow another baby to play with its rattle. The mother explains and shows, with much attempt of course, the virtue of sharing. Where the baby was once ignorant, he is now enlightened… but is he? Why is sharing a virtue? Who decided what is right and what is wrong. Instinct perhaps, but I doubt that. How do you know what is moral and ethical? You don’t! You are taught what is moral and what is unjust, you are taught what is ethical and what is barbaric, you are taught what is virtue and what is sin, and you are taught what is right and wrong. Your knowledge is simply someone else’s opinion and we as a society all have seemed to adopted the same opinions which we pass on from generation to generation through the form of religion. I say this because everything can be traced back to religion… good and evil (god and the devil), right and wrong (10 commandments and sin), etc. or perhaps you are atheist… well then how do you explain the unexplainable? Whether you realize it or not, you do it by contradicting the other religions which in turn brings you back to religion. While I’m on the subject of atheism, it is after all just another form of rebelling I hope you all know. I’m guilty of it in fact. I mean, no one is really atheist, unless you live under a communist government of course. But whatever, back to what I was saying… so everything is traced back to religion, everything that has not been scientifically proven that is. So these opinions that we pass on to the next generation (sharing a rattle) is done so through religion. Which thus proves Marx correct, that religion is the opiate of the people. Like the mother teaches her baby how to act, religion teaches its people how to think.
Alright, of course I don’t expect everyone to be convinced of Marx’s statement, so let me continue… now lets say you don’t think Marx is correct, please… allow me to argue.
Religion is the opiate of the people… religion is the opiate of you and me… religion quiets you and me… beliefs quiets you and me… you and me are bitch-slapped and silenced in areas of question and ignorance and brainwashed by opinions passed off as factual by man-made beliefs and worships, and told to be barbaric if we go against any of th….! Haha, sorry… I forgot to sugarcoat everything! What I meant to call that was, religion. Simply stated religion corrupts because power lies within religion. More people have died in the name of religion than anything else in the history of mankind… imagine that! If that isn’t proof enough for the presence of power then I don’t know what is. Control inevitably goes hand in hand with power, thus now proving that religion is the highest form of power and control. And if you think about it, it makes perfect sense. “Religion is the opiate of the people”. To silence all people takes a great deal of power and control. It is religion that decides everything that can’t be proven, and even some things that have been proven. What I’m saying is, religion is the building blocks for humanity and civilization, as we know it. Whether any religion is correct in its teachings I’ll never know. What I do know is that religion is so much in theory, but in reality Marx is right… it is just “the opiate of the people”. It’s not tangible; it’s just a bunch of opinions… so it’s all mental. It guides everyone to no distinct area… you can’t avoid it (not even if you’re an atheist!) It controls all aspects of life, it tells you exactly how to live… but there’s no force behind its control.
Dammit, I’m not sure where I’m going with this now… at first it was just another one of my preaching/philosophical/opinion bullshit, but now it’s me asking myself a question. In the last half hour of writing this I no longer want to PROVE that religion is the opiate of the people, I now want to know WHY religion is the opiate of the people. I know that everyone naturally is born ignorant to everything, and throughout life one learns two different things… science and religion. Science is proven, it’s factual, it’s certain, there’s no room for question. But religion, it’s… it’s something else. It’s indefinite, indifferent, uncertain, and confusing… yet it’s so powerful. But why?!
Perhaps ignorance triggers impulsiveness and oblivion causing one to be naïve and gullible? Yeah… I think I’ll believe that before I get aggravated.
Someone… no everyone, I want a comment on this journal entry! Opinions of any sort, does anyone get where I’m coming from? Does anyone disagree with anything? Does anyone agree with anything? Hellllp!
