We did not have a camera with us for most of this day...so, unfortunately we didn't end up with many photos.
On Thursday, we woke up early because we had reservations to go out in a canoe. The resort offered free guided canoe trips. It was a gorgeous morning and it was early...so the beach was empty. It was so much fun! The guides were really knowledgeable and told some great stories about the history of the island. Unfortunately, we didn't have an underwater camera to bring with us. So, we didn't end up with any photos.
We spent some time by the pool in the morning and then drove to Lahaina for the day. We had lunch at the Pioneer Restaurant, overlooking the Lahaina Harbor. I can't remember what we had, but it was good! We were also able to see the Banyan Tree and walked around the village.
That afternoon, we had a surfing lesson. It was kind of fun, but exhausting! The guy giving us our lesson told us all of these horror stories about people getting hit by others (it was SUPER crowded), just to scare us into being careful. He was really graphic in his descriptions too...people getting cut really bad across their face, getting teeth knocked out, etc. Well, it made me extra paranoid and I couldn't really enjoy myself because I had to watch the people who were flying around me completely out of control. I think that we would have been able to learn more and enjoy it a lot more if we had more space. I'll have to be sure to ask about that next time I'm ever on a vacation where surfing lessons are available. It probably would have been worth it to pay more for a private lesson somewhere else...or to go to a less popular place and at a less popular time.
I also got sunburned AGAIN while we were learning to surf. It was REALLY bad. I had strong sunblock on, but they made us practice some stuff on the beach and we got covered in sand. The instructor told us to make sure we washed all of the sand off so we wouldn't get SAND-burn. I think the sand scrubbed off all of my sunblock and the backs of my legs were just roasted. It SUCKED! It healed up okay, but I was in quite a bit of discomfort. :(
After our lesson we tried to do a bit of shopping, but as we walked around I slowly began to realize that I must have gotten burnt. It was hurting! So, we eventually went back to the resort.
We had a light dinner of sandwiches, chips, and chocolate desserts. We ate dinner on the balcony and enjoyed the sunset over the ocean.

These were the chips that we kept eating while we were in Hawaii...they were so good:
