The House Season Finale

Oh, god, oh, god... I don't think a TV episode has ever made me cry so hard. Ever.

Boyfriend and I were curled up on the couch, with my chin resting on his head, and his hair is now actually wet. Behold the waterworks!

I'm not sure where to start... I simultaneously loved and hated this episode, because it did so many wrenching, painful things. Objectively, it's probably among the best episodes, but I'm still too stunned to be sure...

I will start with the irrevocably good-that it showed the strength of Wilson and Amber's relationship, which I think the writers have done well since it first came up. The brief flash of the video clip, Amber's willingness to look after House for Wilson's sake... And Wilson and Amber's last scene together was so absolutely wrenching that it's setting off tears again just thinking about it.

Yes, I know I'm pathetic.

I also like that we saw House and Wilson's relationship being tested from another angle. Before, it has always been Wilson being tested by House, having to make sacrifices. It was good to see House being there for Wilson and feeling guilt over it. I think that House's willingness to sacrifice himself for Wilson's happiness was his most human moment in the series so far.

I've been lurking on a House/Cuddy community for a while, and I've seen some squeeing about House/Cuddy being made canon by the finale, but this episode did a lot more to support House/Wilson (even if it's just friendship), for me. At the bit in the bus at the end, I had the distinct impression that House thought a life without Wilson around wasn't worth living and that he was disappointed to see Cuddy there when he woke up. Which I say without slash goggles on, because I have been a fan of House/Cuddy up until tonight... Going to take a bit more work to convince me that she is more important to him.

And House already has enough self-loathing to deal with-I doubt that he will be able to allow himself any sort of happiness now, with the death of his best friend's girlfriend hanging over his head.

My hate of the episode comes solely out of the fact that my heart really broke for Wilson-and maybe it's just the idea of losing someone you love in such an unexpected and painful way, or the contrast this episode made with the rest of the comparatively light-hearted season, or the fact that someone on the show was finally irrevocably happy and that it was my favourite character... On one level I'm glad they didn't take the easy way out.

On the other, did they have to do that to Wilson? Seriously, why couldn't they kill of Thirteen?

Did anyone else watch it? Thoughts?

Right, back to writing my fic for smrw_ficafest, which I just started yesterday and which threatens to turn into a monster when I am not looking. As I only have a couple of weeks in which to write it, as I have waiting for a major plot issue to sort itself out, I'm hoping to contain it to a novella.

On a completely unrelated topic, can anyone recommend me a decent analysis of the Congress of Vienna. Long story short, I need to research it for an original fic that I've begun work on...
