A Burst of Cheer

Nov 22, 2008 20:41

The other night I was chatting with a friend who was a bit down, and we began to swap music that cheers us up every time we hear it. This was particularly welcome, as I took to listening to really depressing music while writing my exchange fic because I made a themed playlist, and, erm... The playlist ended up being a collection of some of the most depressing music I own.

So, without further ado, I present you with the songs that make me want to get up and dance every time I hear them. This does not necessarily denote genuine artistic merit (although sometimes it does).

Parasol - Sarah Slean

Because Sarah Slean is quite possibly my favourite artist of all time, and this is quite possibly my favourite song of hers. It kills me that it's a B-side and I can only listen to it on youtube until the EP comes out.

Competition - Dragonette

Because sometimes blatant and unabashed pop music is the way into my heart. I'm not sure why, but then again I'm also not sure what the singer has against clothing her lower body. The answers to the mysteries of the universe continue to evade me!

Mardy Bum - Arctic Monkeys

Do I really need to explain this one?

Everybody Knows - Leonard Cohen

It may say something about my present state of mind that I find this song upbeat but... I love it anyway!

Philosophy - Ben Folds Five

If nothing else, just watch his hands at about 4:00. It's completely insane.
