Thunder of war

Three thirty in the morning
Not a soul in sight
The city's lookin' like a ghost town
On a moonless summer night

On the edge of the city, a lone small house stood.
Surrounded by a crystal garden, in a nice neighbourhood.
Inside the house, a black and white mech paces.
Doorwings high up on his back, while inside his spark races.
He looks up to the sky, towards the lights of the city far
And wonders where his lover was, hoped he was at some bar.

Raindrops on the windshield
There's a storm moving in
He's headin' back from somewhere
That he never should have been

Guilt burns inside his spark, he should have never been away.
Told Prowl he would fetch a parcel, instead he had hunted prey.
It was duty that had called him, and long ago he swore to obey.
Still, now he regrets the lies, knowing tonight he might have to pay.

And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls

But duty was duty, and times are changing fast.
A golden age is ending, he wants the good things to last.
He had decided to fight, when the new Prime had asked.
Had decided to do his part, to kill and take the burden masked.
And still, the war comes nearer and he worries about Prowl.
Who doesn't seem to listen to the war dog's howl.

Every light is burnin'
In a house across town
She's pacin' by the telephone
In her faded flannel gown

The joors passed by, and the acid rain had begun.
The screen shows a crime scene, done by a sonic gun.
Prowl knows that Jazz had one, added a vorn ago
In secret by someone, who he doesn't know.
He wishes he could call the Enforcers, to ask them for help,
but fear stops his hand - the image of Jazz in a cell.

Askin' for miracle
Hopin' she's not right
Prayin' it's the weather
That's kept him out all night

The weather gots worse, the acid rain forcing all beneath a roof.
To Prowl it's a sign of hope, a sign that he doesn't have yet proof.
On the screen the journalist goes on, judged it a victimless crime,
declares the dead mech a traitor, someone who died just in time.

And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls

And Prowl hears the words that they never said,
hears that the traitor wasn't alone, was part of a threat.
He hears the rumbles of the war,
sees the tanks roll, and sees the fliers soar.
But at the moment, all he feels is fear,
fear for his lover, who is still not here.

The thunder rolls
And the lightnin' strikes
Another love grows cold
On a sleepless night

And the reporter talks about a riot,
talks about mechs destroying the peaceful quiet.
He does not say, what everyone knows,
does not say war and Megatron, though he came close.
Prowl looks out of the window, knows he had lied,
he had known it was coming, but had listened to his pride.
As an Enforcer, he had believed in his own,
believed the press, the promises, like a good little drone.

As the storm blows on
Out of control
Deep in her heart
The thunder rolls

But now he is alone, fearing the worst,
alone with the truth, and his world's blood thirst.
In this new world, mechs have to make a stand,
and if it saves his love, he will bloody his hand.
He is no exception to the age old rule,
pushed enough his spark will too turn cruel.

She's waitin' by the window
When he pulls into the drive
She rushes out to hold him
Thankful he's alive

For today though, the war has not arrived,
Jazz is now here, Jazz is still alive.
But his love transforms and only looks at him,
hands empty, visor dark, his face so grim.
Prowl slows and stops, as fear wells up again,
something has happened, his lover is in pain.

But on the wind and rain
A strange new perfume blows

A gentle touch confirms that Jazz had been burned,
he looks up to Jazz, who kept his face turned.
Suddenly he realises that his love was clean,
cleaner than before, and what this can only mean.

And the lightnin' flashes in her eyes
And he knows that she knows

Jazz looks up and down again,
guilt as clear as the surrounding rain.
„Prowl,“ he whispers, the words like a prayer,
lacking what Prowl loves, the style and flair.
He steps forward and answers „Yes, I know,“
says „I love you“ and he means it so.

And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls

They will both change and their world might still burn,
but both would fight to always return.

She runs back down the hallway
To the bedroom door
She reaches for the pistol
Kept in the dresser drawer

Jazz is on their berth, exhaustion took its toll,
Prowl sits next to him, the weapon giving control.
Outside in the storm, he knows good mechs seek,
the killer at his side, the mech he wanted to keep.
Times are changing, the only question now how fast;
He has to become harder, if this war does last.
The weapon is heavy, but he knows what he has to lose,
his love couldn't keep fighting alone and so he has to choose.

Tells the lady in the mirror
He won't do this again
Cause tonight will be the last time
She'll wonder where he's been

The next orn, Prowl joins Prime's scattered group,
mechs without a name, ready to become a army troop.
He knows that he is not the mech he was before,
that he has changed deep down in his very core.
He had taken the road of no return,
a road with love and glory to earn,
a road of war and blood and death and tears,
a long road he would follow for many long years.

And the thunder rolls
And the thunder rolls

If it came, they would together take the fall.
But never ever wonder, if the other would return at all.
And as they walk side by side, innocence lost,
to keep their love alive+, no matter the cost.
