Fan Fic, the words say it all. It's when a bunch of people obsessed with a show/book/song/wtf ever decide to take the story into their own hands and write what they feel they must/should/was really there but got left out because of Acts of God. I find the vast majority of FanFic to be terrible, but well meant, as if the people writing it had the idea perfectly in their heads and it died the little death of premature creative ejaculation long before it saw the page. Sometimes FanFic is lovely. Sometimes it is crap.
That being said...
My Gran's favorite show since The Scarecrow and Mrs. King, is a show called Moonlight, and it was cancelled right after its first season. Her birthday is coming up and since I have become a fan of the show as well (I downloaded it for her to watch), after all, let's face it, it is about vampires and I enjoy seeing research in action (the show bears strong resemblances to Forever Knight, only modernized and less Canadian, lol, also interesting twists on the classic vamp mythos, more Rice than Stoker). I've decided to bite the bullet (goddess I amuse myself) and write my Gran a nice short little fanfic for her birthdate.
Now.
I have written a fanfic or two before, but I never posted any of them, nor do I intend to. Depending on the way this one is received, I might post it, but I'm not making any promises. I had planned to write a Firefly fic at one point, but that seems to be on stand-by as I don't really relish the idea of being lynched by my friends. Luckily, Moonlight is a sorta/maybe/hahaha crime show, since the main character is indeed a private investigator, which means I get to write about bloody stuff. That I am looking forward to. Also, I am going to enjoy getting to play around with this incarnation of the vampire myth and I plan to throw in a lot of the data I've accumulated over the years. So it'll be smart AND cannon! lol.
I promise to start writing original stuff sometime soon. I feel sorry for my poor unelected beta, Nome. She suffers long for my art.
