So, did any of you get the joke in the cut text in my last post? The word "symposium" comes from Greek roots meaning "to drink together," so a symposium with only one person and without drinking is no symposium at all! It's an etymology joke. (*crickets*) This also means that when you get drunk with your pals at an academic conference, YOU'RE DOING IT RIGHT. :D
I begin
literacy tutoring next Monday evening. I'll be at the adult education center downtown, working with students in the GED program to help them build their reading and writing skills enough to pass their classes. I'm not sure what they'll need me to do specifically. I finished my training in the Laubach method in January. I've mentioned to some of you that it's phonics-based and my skills in that area are not very strong. I learned to read before I started kindergarten without explicitly learning phonics, so I never built that foundation. Aaaaa what the phuk is a phonic I do not even know. Also, the diacritical marks make it look like the letters are angry at me and I find that upsetting. :P
