pre-Thanksgiving food report

I made a test batch of cranberry-pumpkin bread (original recipe here) last night for a potluck at work today. I'm glad I did. I didn't have cornmeal, so I just replaced it with more regular flour. The orange zest was a bit pithy, which I think was due to me picking thin-skinned oranges and my inelegant, overzealous zesting on the tiny-holded side of a box grater. I think I'm going to put in some grated ginger instead for the one I'm baking tonight.

I'll also be making a veggie rice pilaf tonight. Cynth's coming, so I'm bringing food she can eat, since my relatives on the side I'm visiting are mostly dairy farmers and making vegan dishes is not exactly high on their list of priorities. I'm also bringing her take-out from Shawarma King. She seems very enthused about this, as she should be, because Shawarma King is delicious. ^__^

How about y'all? Any Thankgiving cooking stories to share?
