I have not been carded the last three times I've purchased alcohol. Before this, the only time I wasn't carded buying alcohol was last summer when I bought a Bud Light & Clamato (Chelada!) at a Mexican grocery store back home for the novelty of it. So to have this happen three times in a row is kind of weird. Do I look years older than I did a month ago?

I've been thinking of changing the name of my LiveJournal to "99 Sobbity Problems" because it sums my life pretty well, except I kind of want to punctuate each word differently, like:

99. Sobbity! Problems?

or

99? Sobbity. Problems!

That seems like the sobbity thing to do. It's like the text equivalent of flapping my arms about when I talk, which I do a lot, and do 10x more when I've been drinking. And it's been and is probably going to continue to be a drink-filled summer.

I cashed in an I bond from my grandmother today. It just came due in June. I was considering leaving it alone and let it accrue interest for a while, but then I checked the current interest rate. It's 0% percent. It would actually be negative if the US Treasury hadn't guaranteed that I bonds interest rates wouldn't be. See, the rate's tied to inflation, you know, and we're deflating right now, like a sad old balloon. The rate will presumably go back above 0% once inflation kicks in again, but I figured why not take the money out now - I can put it in the "Buy Sobbit a car" fund. Anyway, just an FYI on that, in case any of you happen to have I bonds.

As another FYI for folks in Kalamazoo, I have another trip back home planned for September. I'm leaving on Sept. 4th at 6:20 PM - I'll probably get a ride with someone one on my way out from work, if I don't own a car yet - and coming back on 5:55 PM on Sept. 13th. It's exciting because I'll be there for Bez's 55th birthday. Ha, he's such an old man. ^__^ There will be scotch and the traditional birthday cigar and I told him we have to go out somewhere fancy at some point so I can wear the dress I bought in Sagatuck last weekend. Also, we might go on a roadtrip to visit my sister Cynthia, who will be a freshman at VCU.

So, yeah. Grown-up stuff. I keep debating with myself about getting an apartment by myself. I mean, there are cheaper options. But the question is, are there better options? I think what I want, what I maybe need, psychologically, is something a bit more mine. And I want a non-coin-operated washer and dryer all to myself. That would be awesome. And the car thing, well, as much as I like not having one, not having one is kind of - well, I'm 23, nearly 24, and I do have a driver's license, and a decently-paying job, and I live in the mid-west, and though I do ride a bike I'm not particularly into it and it's not like biking is really practical in the winter anyway (though apparently it is not without its aficionados) - so why don't I own one? Right. Sheila, a co-worker, just called half an hour ago with an offer for a Chevy Cavalier from her nephew. She's going to email me the stats on it. I want a car that will be reliable, gets decent gas mileage, and not be utter crap in the winter. The basics. A car that does car things.
