The Squid and the Whale
Noah Baumbach
2005

I really don't have a whole lot to say about this film, but I did like it a lot. I pretty much agree with the consensus that it's a very genuine seeming, well acted film with realistic (if messed up) characters. I only say realistic seeming because I don't have the life experience necessary to judge whether or not the film is realistic. I was engrossed enough by the story that I didn't pay much attention to the technical merits of the film (well, that and they didn't really jump out at me like they did in Throne of Blood.) I would liked to have gotten a better idea of how the parents changed over time (were they always the way there were now?). You get some minor hints, but nothing concrete. That said, I can see how not revealing this information makes the film interesting in its own right.
