Sid and Nancy
I'm not really sure what to say about this film. The acting was amazing and although the plot dragged quite a bit, that is understandable. The technical aspects were also quite good. The one area that I have to take exception to is essentially a matter of interpretation. This movie places almost all of the blame of the downfall of Sid Vicious on his girlfriend, Nancy. It's almost like a traditional Eve story in that respect. While we do see that Sid is a bit off even before meeting Nancy, we get little impression of how messed up he truly was. That being said, it seems like most of the events that happened were fairly accurate if somewhat unfairly framed.
Having seen Sid and Nancy and done a little research, I have to say that I find Sid Vicious to be an utterly despicable person embodying everything that can be wrong with punk rock. He couldn't even play the bass guitar! The movie seems to insinuate that he just didn't practice enough to learn the band's songs... but no, Sid literally could not play his instrument at all. And yet he is more universally well known than almost any other punk in the world... the replacement bassist who couldn't even play bass! Disgusting...
