i grew up with such a fascination of severe weather. my 7th birthday we had a horrid hurricane that ripped through Long Island, NY where i grew up. two years later, a very small tornado went right down my road and my parents had to physically remove me form the porch.
in my teen years, i befriended a family that moved in next door, who were from Kansas. i went on a vacation to thier hometown in April 1991 - and was there for the infamous Andover KS tornado. once again, i was dazzled by the frightening beauty of the storm as i sat on the backyard picnic table. it seemd so far away but it was not. i was called to the storm shelter and when we emerged, the table i had been on was gone...as was most of the house we were staying in.

in 95, i went Storm CHasing with a group of students from OK and TX. we had a few days of the scariest weather i had ever been through. we were eating breakfast (for dinner!!) at Waffle House and we saw one headed toward us. that close call seemed to have cured me...

but i still watch and read and learn more. the thing i hate is when people are hurt and towns are destroyed. and when nice people like you are scared and live on the second floor!! i wish that every building had a decent shelter :( you had every right to be in Panic Mode - i would have been doing the same thing.

thanks for sharing and i hope the rest of storm season is kinder to you.

best,
Jenne
