tv: the mentalist, thoughts on 4×13. Great episode! As usual of course. But what I really liked about this was that it managed to be an episode with a separate plot with the Red John plot intricately woven into it. The Mentalist writers are great at that but I think this has to be one of their best attempts yet. It was hard to follow (for me because it wasn’t Patrick doing the RJ investigation this time). I didn’t quite understand Wainwright’s willingness to just hand over the files over to the FBI like that, it struck me as weird. I can understand him not wanting to tell the team but it was a little odd. I’m sure there’s a story there somewhere.
I read an interview or heard of an interview where Bruno Heller (show creator) said that there’d be a lot more standalones this season because season 3 had been so serialized and they were still a crime procedural show. More like CBS had a word in his ear, because with viewers like this show gets I suppose one has to be able to just watch any old episode and know what’s going on without having to watch previous seasons first. Which makes sense Iguess. But this episode was a good way of doing that while maintaining the back story.
The end scene was nothing short of brilliant. Gave me chills! NEW EPISODE NEXT WEEK! EEP!
