Yes, indeed, he does! I haven't watched SPN since season 4 and I really was all like "WTF? What's with teh hair? What the hell?" Why on earth let he grow it like this?
Yes, I've been abstinent since 4.14 or 16. Back then I wasn't happy with the plot development. I thought the whole angel thing was rather ridiculous compared with what and how SPN had been before. I was disappointed. But lately I'm thinking about getting back to SPN because I love evil!Sam so much, and someone told me newer episodes are about evil!Sam. But then I see things like Sam's hair and suddenly I'm not so sure anymore.
Oh, if it was 4.16, I don't blame you. Everyone loves that episode but it was awful. I agree on the angels...but right now in season 8 we're still on the whole angels vs demons plot. The show basically lacks progressiveness. As for evil!Sam...lol...I'm trying to remember these newer episodes. I assume they meant Robo!Sam who wasn't necessarily evil and that only lasted for 11 episodes or so. I wouldn't bother if I was you. I'm actively hate-watching it now.
What is Robo!Sam like? Please, don't tell me it's what I suspect. I would love to see evil!Sam as in evil-Lilith-kind-of!Sam. Do we don't get that? What I'm wondering about, too, is the fact that Dean and Castiel spend a lot of time together. Is Castiel now a substitute for Sam?
Also, your icon is luv! (I always imagine Sam with shorter hair, though.)
Soulless!Sam sounds awesome, but that's pretty much the only thing I can say this about from what you tell me.
OMG! I get the impression that the show is not - by all means - what it once used to be. Sam has been my most favorite Winchester brother. I simply loved everything about him. Hearing now that he is nothing more than a wallpaper nearly breaks my heart. The hell have they done with him? Maybe watching all the episodes I've missed is not such a good idea, after all.
And then there is the hair affair, of course. It's hard to deal with hair like that. lol
