first night

The first time that Christopher has been away from his mother overnight (to the best of my knowledge, as I have no idea what went on in the USA) and it was quite successful. I have already mentioned the getting to bed, which worked well, and it was pleasing that he slept well till about 2.30. So probably 8.30pm to about 2.30 in one go, with not a move. Then I read more nursery rhymes and he returned to sleep. This was repeated every half hour for the next three hours. He'd sleep a little, wake, cry, look at me, I'd read or talk and he would sleep a little more.

At five am I gave up and decided he could do with breakfast. After all, he had fasted from about 8pm till 5am, and, again, as far as I know, snacks on breast milk all night.

He is now picking at a melange of cheerios, cheese, ham, bread and banana. I tried giving some regular cow milk but he was not too keen on that, and then I tried diluted orange juice, but that was also not so good either. But he seems pleased with water, so he is hydrated.

So much to do today. But at the moment he is getting patriotically enthusiastic about a New Zealand sailing medal.
