The man who was currently sitting on the ground folded his last shirt, put it into his bag and looked around once more. He wasn't going to be away for too long but two weeks were enough for him to miss this place. Not only this place, he looked at a picture he planed to take with him, he would definitely miss him. One day, he just had one last day he could spend with him until Paris would greet him nicely, hopefully. Hyukjae sighed. It hadn't been this complicated three weeks ago when he was still wasn't sure of his feelings.
The blonde guy turned around upon hearing somebody entering his room. It was no other than his super dense friend who was grinning at him madly. Seriously, how was he going to survive two weeks without somebody annoying him 24/7. Donghae sat down next to him, looking at the bag Hyukjae had packed and back to his friend. He didn't understand, it was obvious that Donghae had forgotten where he was going. Hyukjae chuckled and leaned against Donghae's shoulder. If it wasn't for his friend who couldn't stand still he would have fallen asleep. Donghae who had turned around already asked where Hyukjae planned to go. He remembered that Hyukjae had told him something about his vacation but he couldn't recall what exactly he had told him. I'm going to France, Hyukjae said. Donghae's mouth formed into an 'O'.
Hyukjae closed his bag after he went through the list with all the necessary stuff he would most likely need. Only now Donghae had noticed that he had no clue when his friend was going to leave Korea, the fact that he had packed his stuff already meant soon. He didn't expect it to be tomorrow though but Hyukjae had told him that his flight was setting off tomorrow. Stop whining, Hyukjae told him after Donghae had started to complain that it was too soon and that he didn't know.
I told you a week ago that I was going to Paris. Donghae told him that it sucked. He hated that their vacation time was different. Why couldn't they all have their vacation at the same time? It was a rather rhetorical question though. They were a band, they should sing and dance and maybe entertain but not the way they were doing it. Donghae was fine with less money if it meant spending more time with his precious friend and having his vacation at the same time as him. Don't be a chick, Hyukjae said while standing up and heading towards the door, it's just two weeks and instead of wasting your time in my room you could take me out on a date. Donghae hugged his friend from behind and told him that they could just spend their time in Hyukjae's room as well. Well, the only thing he had achieved was a punch way too south for his liking. Maybe, Donghae decided, he would take Hyukjae out on a date this once.
The day of departing came and Donghae was more clingy than usual. As if he wasn't annoying enough Hyukjae thought before hugging the rest of his friends to say goodbye. He wasn't disappearing nor was he going to immigrate into France. He was just going to enjoy his vacation in another country. He was of course going to miss Donghae but his dear friend really did know well how to exaggerate. Donghae was acting as if the world was going to go down. Donghae, if you don't want me to stay in France forever you better let go of my leg this instant. Threatening, Hyukjae thought, did always work.
France was definitely different from Korea. More complicated, more foreign and the air wasn't the best in Paris. French sounded extremely awkward to him, still, although he had tried to watch all kind of French movies to get used to the language. But as he confirmed now he didn't get used to it one bit. He should have watched those movies without subtitles because then he would have noticed that he wasn't going to understand one word. How was he going to survive with the little English he could speak? He did not know.
One of the first things he did was to check in into the hotel he was going to stay in. He had booked a room for two people to stay in. Why? Hyukjae wasn't sure. He probably had forgotten that Donghae was not going to stay with him. Well a room for two people with only one person staying meant more place for him. He would have enough room for the clothes he was going to shop for in Paris. That was one of the main reasons why he came to Paris. Clothes, clothes and some more clothes.
As a typical tourist Hyukjae went sight seeing. He took pictures of all kind of places, touched everything he was allowed to touch and wasted pretty much one week of his two weeks stay. He did know how to ask for the metro now and he also understood the extremely simple system of it. At least he didn't have to worry about landing at the wrong place.
On a particular sunny day he had decided to walk around a little bit. He was somewhere near Notre Dame, more like near the river. The sight was nice and there were tons of bridges you could cross to get to the other side of the street. There was a shop on the other side of the street he wanted to look at so Hyukjae decided to change sides. He crossed one of the bridges when he noticed locks hanging on it. The locks had all kind of shapes, some where pink, the most of them golden and all of them had something written on it. To be more exact they had names or letters written on them and a heart next to it. Being clever enough to figure out what it meant Hyukjae decided to go on walking until somebody stopped him.
It was a random person selling locks who was asking him something he obviously did not understand. Je ne comprend pas, est-ce que vous parlez l'anglais? (I don't understand, do you speak English?) Hyukjae said in his most awful accent. He did speak English. Hyukjae had noticed that a lot of people were able to speak English in Paris. The random guy asked him, if he didn't misunderstand anything, if he wanted to buy a lock as a sign of his never ending love towards his girlfriend, he did not have, Hyukjae added in his mind. Why did everybody assume that he was straight? He bought one, they were quite cheep and Hyukjae wouldn't have minded the price anyway.
He had something in mind already. He would engrave his and Donghae's name into it and hang it next to the other locks. They key was meant to be send to Korea to a certain somebody. The only thing he had to do now was find a place where they did engrave names into locks and find the post office. In the next two days the task turned out to be harder than it had sounded in Hyukjae's mind. Nevertheless he had found everything he needed and he still had time to go shopping! I'm a real genius.
Meanwhile Donghae had received post from France. It was a letter from his Hyukjae and some key he didn't know what to do with.
Dear Donghae,
it hasn't even been two weeks and I already miss you. How are you doing? What are the others doing? I hope you aren't feeling too lonely without me. I know that you don't like to be left alone. But bear with it for another few days please. I'll make sure to be back as soon as possible.
Did you receive the key? (if not I will make sure to punch the person in charge). Take it as a present. It fits to a lock if you didn't figure it out already. I did not send it to you to only look at and throw into a random corner of your room. If you find the lock, I will tell you something I have wanted to tell you since a few years already. It's a well kept secret, you better make sure to find the lock.
I'm going out to buy some clothes now. Greet everybody and tell them that I'm fine. Paris is fun and I would stay here longer if I was allowed to.
See you in three days stupid,
Hyukjae~
How does he expect me to survive another three days without him, Donghae mumbled.
The next three days felt like some kind of punishment to Donghae while Hyukjae was happily taking selcas and buying things he would never use or wear. He had bought a couple of things for his friends even though he was greedy. It was more of an I-bought-something-for-you-so-you-better-buy-me-something-fancy-the-next-time-as-well-present. His friends did not have to know though. They would just think that it was a nice gesture of him. He wasn't in Paris everyday anyways and he didn't want to hear them complain when he came back and wanted to rest.
Stop throwing yourself at me Donghae! Hyukjae screamed at the airport while Donghae couldn't restrain himself from hugging his friend to death. Everybody just laughed at the pitiful sight of their friend who was actually starting to choke already. If Heechul hadn't decided to get his dongsaeng off of Hyukjae they probably would have had to visit the hospital. Where is the lock? Donghae asked. A smack on the back of his head was enough to shut him up. Find it yourself, Hyukjae said ignoring him completely the rest of the day.
Two days after Hyukjae had returned their manager announced that they were going to hold a concert in Paris. The moment the word 'Paris' slipped out of their manager's mouth Donghae started his own celebration, hugging his manager and jumping onto the cough singing all kind of weird songs. Nobody dared to question what Donghae was up to, you could even hear some one say 'I think he's gone completely mad now'.
A concert in France meant that Donghae finally got the chance to find a lock in Paris. He made his own researches already and had gotten some hints. He had asked his friend at which places he had been to not have to walk through the whole city. There were a few places he was going to check out and he sincerely hoped to find that stupid lock. Donghae was dying to hear Hyukjae's secret.
Hyukjae on the other hand didn't understand why he came back from France if they were going back. Sometimes he did not understand what kind of stuff the responsible people took to come up with such ridiculous schedules. If it was a sure thing that they were going they could have called him and extend his stay as well. But being a part of SM Entertainment meant dealing with the most complicated thoughts a person could come up with to write one of the most tiring schedules. Nevertheless he had to comply, what other chance did he have? Right, he had none. So again Hyukjae had to pack his bag.
Wow, Europe is indeed different. It's like, like a different world you step into. Hyukjae look! The Eiffel Tower! It's huge~~. Two days, Hyukjae thought, they were only going to stay for two days. He would be able to deal with an amazed Kidhae. He had to. I know Donghae, it's huge. And if you want to visit it you are going with Heechul. I'm not going to stand in a never ending row for hours just to have a decent look on Paris. Donghae's smile turned into a pout. Hyukjae always had to ruin all of his plans.
The Eiffel Tower was a no then. Donghae still decided to tell his hyung to look for locks on the Eiffel Tower. If there were any he could still wait in a row for hours if it meant revealing Hyukjae's secret. Before he could walk around more he had to go to dance practice though. He wasn't going to neglect his duties.
Where the hell is this church Donghae thought. He had been walking around for hours and well, he was lost. Being lost in Paris wasn't one of the greatest things that could have happened to him and it was starting to rain already. He was getting seemingly frustrated, how could he have missed one of the most obvious and biggest churches. 'Umbrella, umbrella!' somebody screamed while approaching him. If those people could say umbrella they for sure could tell him where Notre Dame was. Excuse me, Donghae said, I search Note Dame. I'm lost. Help? The guy looked at him, irritated at first until pointing right in front of Donghae's eyes and offering him an umbrella even though he was soaked already. Thank you, he said facepalming himself mentally and buying an umbrella to show his gratitude. Honestly, how could he have not seen that.
Hyukjae was startled when somebody pulled the door open like a maniac. Why can't you just enter a room normally like every other person Donghae? he said trying to calm his heart. Donghae glared at him while searching for dry clothes. Why can't you tell me your secrets like every other person? I've been searching for that lock since half of the day. If I catch a cold because of you I will hate you forever. Only now did Hyukjae notice that Donghae was completely wet from head to toe. He felt sorry for him but he couldn't tell his secret to Donghae as easily as his friend imagined. He wanted it to be special and he knew that he would be embarrassed if he told him in person. You still have one day left, Hyukjae whispered, talking to himself rather then Donghae. His friend looked at him in complete horror. Hyukjae was indeed Satan in person.
Stop crawling into my bed whenever you feel like it you idiot, Hyukjae mumbled half asleep. Donghae only wrapped his hands around him ignoring what his friend told him. He was afraid of the dark, still, and he knew how childish that was but he just couldn't get over his fear. And he knew better than anybody else that Hyukjae actually didn't mind him sleeping next to him whenever he felt lonely or scared. He was used to it by now. He liked being close to Hyukjae, these were the only moments he could show some affection without being violent. He hugged Hyukjae tighter, was he ever going to confess his one sided love to him?
Donghae woke up early in the morning. He couldn't waste much of his time if he wanted to know what Hyukjae was hiding from him. Having no other choice Donghae decided to just ask everybody on the street where he could find locks. He hoped that they wouldn't be creeped out or anything similar to that. Seriously, people would think he was out of his mind searching for something like that. He stopped in his track when he felt somebody pulling him into bed again. Don't go, it's getting cold was enough to convince him that he was going to stay a little longer in bed. You are doing it on purpose right? Donghae asked never getting an answer.
All places, he had visited all places already. How was he supposed to find anything in Paris? It was frustrating and tiring, he had already blisters pretty much everywhere. Donghae was glad that he didn't need to perform anymore. Seeing no sense in searching any further he walked around randomly. He was near the Seine where people sold all kind of souvenirs. If he was in Paris already he could buy something for his mom as well. A salt cellar in the form of two people hugging - A perfect gift for his mother.
He walked around a little bit more until a certain bridge caught his interest. There were weird things dangling off of it and it looked really....weird. If he was near already he could have a look as well. The moment he reached the bridge he couldn't believe his eyes. Locks, he thought, locks everywhere! I found it finally. He just needed to find the right one and he would finally got to know the secret Hyukjae didn't want to tell him about. He wasn't going to give up, not now.
It was late already when Donghae finally got back to the hotel. He was relieved, happy and grinning like a mad person. He knocked on the door before finally stepping into the room both him and Hyukjae shared. Hyukjae couldn't hide his curiosity seeing Donghae grin widely. Did I miss out on something? he asked, not fully understanding why his friend was acting as if he drank or took some happy pills. Close your eyes, Donghae said and Hyukjae did after getting rid of any second thoughts of doing what Donghae wished for. It didn't last long but the kiss was enough to convey his love. I love you too Donghae said before sharing another kiss with his future lover.
