spring has come to annapolis, and even rather cold weather cannot stop it. coming from ohio, it is a bit odd to see white blossoms on trees and pink buds on others this early in the season, but i have to confess that i like it a great deal. yesterday morning, as i walked over to halsey as the sun was coming up, i saw a sprig that had fallen from a tree. on my way back i picked it up, and, after pressing a small bunch, and sending one of th eblossoms across the atlantic with a card, i put the remainder in a lid from a yankee candle with a bit of water. thus far they're holding up quite nicely.
things are winding down marvelously these days. our training officer doesn't even try to yell at us anymore, and some of the upperclass are telling us flat-out not to chop anymore. i like this relaxed state of affairs. suposedly it's going to feel a lot more like normal college around here as time passes.
today we went off the platforms in swimming class. the highest we jumped was five meters, and it was a lot less frightening than it was during plebe summer when i had no idea where the water was because i had no contacts in. of course, not looking down does still make everything easier. next year we have to go off of the ten meter platform or we do not get invited to attend next year. (it's an abandon ship drill, so i suppose one would need to do that to get commissioned.)
my midterms have started making their way back to me, and so far i'm pleased with all of them. in fact, my 93 on the western civ exam was almost as thrilling as the time i got a 97 on a rourke paper...note, ALMOST. i think that accomplishment is still one of my most treasured, as it was truly unique. besides, when it really cmes right down to it i should be getting a's in wetsern civ, and the fact that i'm not points mostly to a failure--for one reason or another--to reach my full potential. all i really care about, though, is that i get at least a b in the class so i can take spanish in place of western civ 2 next year.
last night an irish poet came to read of some of his work. his name is ciarian carson, and it was rather enjoyable, despite how graffic the work tended to me. maybe i'll get a book of his poetry sometime. he and his wife also played some music for us, which was lovely.
well, i'm off to dinner...mmmm...dinnner. then i have an annotated bibliography to write...fun...especially since i currently have no sources whatsoever. luckily i have no glee club tonight so there'll be plenty of time to do it.
ps: i thought i'd try out this new pic. it's of sigyn going to empty the bowl of poison. it's kind of sad, because loki suffered only when she was away emptying it, but i liked that she looked weary in this picture.
