Sigune's How Not To Draw Comics - Part XII

Nov 27, 2006 19:49

It has been more than two months since my last comics entry (ouch!), and meanwhile, Rufftoon a. k. a. Johane Matte has brought out the fanbook, with seventeen of my Snape pages plus The Young Potions Master in it. Squee! I’m incredibly proud - the booklet looks so pretty and features b/w comics and drawings by fan artists whom I admire very much, ( Read more... )

I love this most recent page, including the Snape thigh-age. The way you've drawn the willow--it seems alive on the page. I'm not an artist--I can't even doodle--so I don't know how to say that, but it looks like it's living the way you've drawn that with the lines moving up and down the trunk and limbs so fluidly.

Thank you for posting these updates. I do so enjoy them!!

I'm so glad you like them :D!

Thank you for saying that about the Willow... The tree was a challenge in terms of being a plant with an attitude - it's almost a character in its own right. I was at pains to express a sense of movement.

The thigh-age - well, I'm only human ;P...

Now that is one menacing-looking tree :)

Nice to see a new update. Enjoyed it greatly, as always.

Thank you :D!

It's funny, but in the comic I have come to think of the tree as a character; that wasn't the case in the prose story :-).

Some of my favourite angsty music comes from Mozart's Requiem (I'm an ardent Mozart Requiem lover *), but I haven't used that because ... er ... well, I guess I can't see Snape as a classical music lover. Though, coming to think of it, one of my stranger fancies had him join a church choir XD. Okay, bring on that Miserere...

More Snape-thigh soon! ;P

one of the best renditions of a whomping willow I've seen, that tree looks like it could do some really serious damage!

Great news about the fanbook and the Wilde comic! You're a busy person these days. I have to agree with the others. The Whomping Willow looks fabulous and quite menacing, and the knots remind me of eyes.

I can't listen to music while I'm writing, either. It's interesting to learn what you listen to while you draw.

Ack. Actually it's not me being busy (I'm merely rudderless and running around like a headless chicken), it's the people who put together these books... The Wilde comic is a few years old, even, but I'm still enormously fond of it, which is a rarity :). So when I met this man who edits the magazine I offered it to him.

I hadn't thought about the knots as eyes, but now that you mention it, in the first picture I do discern bulging eyes of the squid variety XD...

I was wondering about you, music and writing. Since you make plenty of reference to music in HI, and assembled the CDs, it was perfectly possible that you listened while working... Isn't it funny how music inspires in your head, but is a nuisance when you're actually working?
