Auditions for Sleeping Beauty

Siguard prepared the chairs in the auditorium and placed a copy of the script on each chair. He parked himself in one of the auditorium's chairs (leaving one open beside him for Arthur, after all, the Co-Director needed a place of honor. He was hoping to plunge himself into the play and hopefully it would distract him from some of his pain. He knew ( Read more... )

Alfred stepped confidently into the auditorium, wearing his usual cheerful grin. There were quite a few people here already, and they all seemed to be happily chatting about the play, among other things. Good, so nothing had started yet, he noted with relief. He took a minute to look around the room, his eyes focusing on the huge stage in the center.

Alfred had never done anything with plays or acting, (Which was odd, since he had such a loud, animated voice, perfect for theater...) but he figured he'd give it a shot. He needed that extra credit for his British Lit class, so if there was any chance he could get some by doing this, it was worth it... Plus, he'd never pass up an opportunity to be in the spotlight; to be the star of something! So obviously, he'd be going out for the lead role. The lead MALE role, that is!

"Hey everybody!" he called, making his presence known. He took a seat up front and waited to be told just exactly what he would be doing.

"Hei Mister Jones." The Norwegian greeted in his native tongue. (Which would probably go over the American's head as it sounded like 'Hi Mister Jones.' When was Siguard so informal ( ... )

"Heya Siguard! You know, you can call me Alfred if ya want!" he said with a laugh. (He found it funny that this boy that was in his grade was calling him "Mr. Jones".) "Yeah, I know- I don't think Matt wanted to come at first, but I talked him into it! He should be here soon..." Alfred stood up and went to go pick up a script before sitting back down. "Just so you know, I'm going out for Prince Phillip, cause there's no way anybody's gonna put me in a dress!" Plus, the bold prince, the hero of the play, was obviously the perfect role for him! He flipped through the script and started skimming it, looking for a good scene to do.

"Alfred." he tried out. It would take some getting used to.

"You are welcome to audition for the role. I will keep in mind your uncomfortable feelings towards wearing a dress. There is other male roles. I cannot promise you the role of prince until I see your performance, but I shall try to keep you in mind for a role that keeps you in pants or leggings." Siguard nodded, blinking his often half lidded eyes slowly. "I'm sure, though, with how Mathias talks of you, the children will enjoy you performance regardless of the role you are in."

"Thanks..." he said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. "Yeah, staying in pants would be awesome... Leggings? You mean like tights?" Alfred was pretty sure that was what dancers wore... Ah well, at least there were guy's versions of tights. (Cause dammit, he was determined to still feel masculine!) Still, he couldn't help but smile at the thought of the children giggling at whatever ridiculous costume he may end up wearing.

"Yeah, I'm sure they will! Man, you know I kinda miss the little guys... I did take your advice though- I am going to try and get into the Big Brother Program... I even set up an appointment..." he said happily as he continued to flip through the script. "I figure shouldn't be too hard to get in.... After all, I'm great with kids!"

"Mathias told me that you were sure for it after the Christmas Party. I think it is a very good idea. I think children find you easier to approach. You are not an intimidating figure like Mathias or a cold one such as myself. I think perhaps I will probably also put you in charge of things such as Advertising the play. I think you could certainly get the children excited for the show." He nodded. He could rationally use everyone's abilities to the best of them Alfred could easily bring in tickets with his natural charisma towards children.

"Advertising? Sure; I can do that!" If there was one thing he really knew how to do, it was use his voice to get people excited about stuff! Alfred knew it would be really easy to persuade the kids into going to see a play, just by talking to them about it. But children were visual too; he knew that, so he made a note to go out later and get some poster board and markers and other poster making supplies. Visual reinforcement couldn't hurt...

"Ok, so... this audition... am I gonna get up there and audition alone, or am I doing a scene with other people?" Not that he minded either way... He was perfectly ok with getting up on stage and performing all by himself.

"With another. Most of the scenes portray interaction between characters, unless you find an Aside to the audience that is long enough, but I don't think that appears in this particular work. Were we doing Shakespeare you could find that. One of the other auditioners will be reading opposite you. It allows two people to audition at the same time, and occasionally to be seen in different roles than just the ones they are trying out for.
