Hmm, I dunno. I know certain people that when I ask them a random seemingly purposeless question similar to those in your survey that some people do in fact use the question as a spring board toward saying something indeed creative and often much more profound than my original question. Then there are others that haven't a clue what I am getting at and look at me (as often people do) like I'm completely insane. And maybe I am but often I think If I weren't than I might not have any drive to strive for what i find meaningful in life. So my point I guess is: don't you think people might always respond to your questions as their typical personality/character would predict, some with profound or creative answers, some with nothing at all and that this might not ever change for some people? I have friends that will always find me crazy and some that will always jump at the chance to dabble in somewhat abstract conversation and then I have friends that are very much inbetween. Maybe your survey will have an effect on a "large and unpredictable scale" I guess you'll just have to wait and see...

Look, unless you're some kind of personality robot, if something unexpected happens, you can't react to it in an expected way. I mean, if your responce to a cow that falls from the sky and explodes three feet before hitting the ground is "typical" then you have to tell me what that is, because it's probably pretty fucking crazy.
The idea here is that, no matter what, if someone hears something they never thought possible, or at least didn't think they would hear, then they will think something that is outside they're usual range of thinking, even if they're responce is within the bounds of their personality/character.

Sorry for the LATE reply to this. You know, I think what I was trying to get at when I first wrote in response to the whole 'paradigm sifted' survey was that if you ask someone a random question unrelated to any other previous lines of conversation they will at first be caught off guard but will eventually try to incorporate their existing personality and its predictable method of answering questions into finding a full answer.

You can try and compare a cow falling from the sky to this but it just wouldnt be the same thing. Because the cow falling is an unexpected event whereas someone asking you to answer questions in a survey is expected. They know there will be questions asked but just don't know what the questions will be so they prepare themselves prior as best they can.

Whatever questions seem 'random' or unexpected may or may not produce "something that is outside they're usual range of thinking". Otherwise if you knew that a random question asked would always result in a response outside their usual range of thinking then you'd expect that response and it would no longer be unusual. And so, the whole point of the survey would be lost. That (I think) was my point.

As far as falling cows go though, I totally agree with you there....
