The Update

Well, I've owed you all (all seven of you, maybe) an update, so here it is.

I got a new job at Kroger this week. Grocery Clerk. Nice job title, isn't it? It's better than Stock Boy and Part Time Bagger, which is what I really am. I get to go into the back, where I am either told what Large Cart of Stuff +1 to take out onto the floor and empty as best as possible, or I'm assigned to shadow someone and help them out. Apparently, this will only be a guy named Bill, and Bill is awesome. WoW Geek, gamer geek, the whole nine yards. We banter back and forth pretty well, and I hope he likes me as much as I like him.

Our boss is a guy named Jim. Soft-spoken, but a real pleasure to work under. Very easy-going, and very understanding that I am an out-of-shape motherfucker. Bill's a pea string in shoes, Jim's fairly average sized by smaller than me, but I'm one of three or four Very Tall Guys, and one of several Fat Guys, so it evens out.

Basically, my days have been me helping stock product. We bring it in and put it on carts depending on the aisle or department. Meat and Produce tend to get their own stuff, or I've never seen one of their deliveries, as is with Non-Foods. We divide the stuff into the carts, and then take the carts out. Now, I've yet to be present for the division work; the carts tend to be there when I get there to work at 8am. Yes, I am up at 6:30am these days. Your eyes do not deceive you.

In any event, I (or we) will take a cart out onto the floor and into its Aisle. I (or we) then get to find the item on the top, check to see if it needs stocked, and if so, stock it. If Bill's working with me, we divide a cart up, and if I can't find something, he finds it for me. One of the better parts of the job is that there is frequent need to stock things on the bottom shelf, giving me a perfectly valid reason to sit my fat ass down. Tiny breaks for the win.

I come home every time thoroughly exhausted, but the work is very pleasing. I feel great every time I leave, though my body would beg to differ, including the newly-forming blister on my heel. Still, it's a good job, honest and hard work, and I could use that right now. Would I love another office job? Absolutely. Will I no doubt hate this job at some point? Probably.

Speaking of things I dislike, I dislike the HR rep at my place of work. My first day actually doing work was spent, for one and a half hours, sitting in the break room because she neglected to confirm who I was working with. When she got there around 8:30, she was fairly suprised to see me there, and things were cleared up in no time. Still... scatterbrained does not equal management material, I don't care who you ask.

In other news, my car is on its very last legs. I blew out two tires yesterday; one on the ride in to school, and the spare on the way home. Mom fronted me a gift, or so she thinks, to get new tires, and it's fine now, but there's an odd problem with the car anyway. Whenever I drive too long or, I think, too long in a certain gear (for my automatic), whenever I slow down or stop for a light or turn, the car begins to shudder and shake, so much so that I have to either pull off the main road I'm on and give it a good break, or risk stalling out in the middle of traffic. Embarassing, but after a few minutes, I can get it going again and usually make it to school. Not fun. So, in the near future, I'm taking on a car payment, and putting my computer dreams on hold.

That is, if I'm not forced to replace this hard drive.

Okay. Rants over. The only other decent bit of news is that Hyuga on Bloodhoof US now has his epic flying mount AND the rare bow drop from Prince Malchezzar in Karazan... not that I'll be using it much. Getting home tired tends to leave me with more of a desire to sleep and less of one to WoW. Who knows what the future holds, though?

I'll keep fighting the good fight, and I'll try to write more here. Take it easy.

I'm just takin' my time...
