typographic exploration of LA (with photo)

Feb 17, 2003 23:01

-THE PLAN: start at 10am, lucas was to drive his roommates car, it had a leak the damn thing reeked of fermented milk because the past few days of rain. the speakers are so shot that anything and everything sounds live or like noise..its actually amusing.

-EQUIPPED WITH: 2 canon eos (fuji 400 x 24 -8 rolls, triX x 24 - 2 rolls), polaroid 600 (40 takes), polaroid spectra (20 takes) elmo 110 super 8 (1 roll plusX, 1 roll Kodachrome)

ROUTE: start in far east los angeles (it least were caesar chavez blvd. starts) and drive through east la, into echo park through silver lake then into hollywood. then take sunset from vermont all the way through beverly hills, past the 405 and toward the ocean.

- IDEA: document and explore the way typography is used, and contrasts from the inner city into the upper-class west side. LA's (mainly the east side, and los feliz) vernacular signage has been an inspiration for myself as well as a handful of other designers: christian schwartz, jon sueda, mr. keedy.

- RESULT: used all the fuji film, all the polaroid 600, 1/2 the polaroid spectra, maybe 45 seconds of the kodachrome. ran out of gas about 1/2 way ahahah for some reason we never thought of looking at the gage??this was fucking funny. had to push the car 1 block to find a place park the damn thing, i was laughing so hard i could barely push... luckily a station was in walking distance … well it is LA. after this I was exhausted the day ended there (4pm). will continue on the west side sometime soon???
