-Young People were great tonight, good to see some friends, some old friends, some ex-friends,its nice to see the smell again, been so long since ive been there. things have changed since they fired (Mell) the old pack-rat of a soundman who lived on a couch in the venue, he was payed 5$ for each show...he was a musty old man, he crusted up in this little corner in the back, used his lighter to light the soundboard, had instrument cable running on the floor towards the stage, he was a junkie ta boot.no shit, its like a professional venue these days, medium size stage, professional soundman w/sound stage, i think its for the better and things will only continue to get better for them i hope. since this is really the only all ages DIY space in L.A. the area in which the smell is located, is in between BROADWAY and MAIN in downtown Los Angeles. i love this area, but as of late every building/complex/square foot of property has been yuppified driving what used to be next to nothing to live, is now a living week to week basis deal, for some. maybe the So.Ho of L.A.?
Silverlake and Los Feliz are everybody's idea of what Hollywood is supposed to look like, indeed, the hillside homes, eclectic architecture and trendy boutiques, restaurants and nightclubs infuse the fashionable enclave with a kind of funky glamour that is quintessential L.A. i guess while these neighboring districts are known for attracting artists, musicians and other creative types, their proximity to the downtown have made both communities popular with downtown business people as well. chinatown seems to be increasingly hip these days as artists and designers flee the yuppification of downtown, and take over streets such as Chun King Road, a fascinating alley off Hill Street, that is colored with sleek new design boutiques next to classic post-war Chinese neon kitsch. i dont know...im tired of backing L.A. up ive been doing it for way to long. i dont want to get into the public trasnportation bit,,,,echhhh fuck ive sed enough..
