... because I'm an action figure!
How many of you can claim to have your own action figure? The saddest part is that I can't actually smoke that cigar.
Sure, "smoking is bad for you," but sometimes you just have to find an outlet for all of your frustrations. Some people say that it is better to meditate, or to jog, or to immerse yourself in a 'positive' activity. But socially sanctioned activities don't bring the same joy that a forbidden pleasure does. You can ease tension, and bring yourself a bit of gratification all at the same time. Of course, becoming dependent on that outlet is just as bad as having no outlet. I'm not suggesting that everyone always pick up a cigar or start having sex whenever they are under a period of stress, but if you had to deal with every single feeling in your conscious mind you'd never have time to live - sometimes you need to ignore your feelings. Maybe exercise really does let out what is bothering you, and bring you that id gratification, but I would question that (or question you in order to revamp some theories, because except for bringing pain, I just don't see what sort of id wish that fulfills).
For all the people who think that the world has come so far since the Victorian era, I have to ask how happy you can really be in a society that says you can't smoke, can't drink, shouldn't eat too much (nor should you eat too little), can't have sex, ... the list goes on and on. I met people who couldn't do those things - they went crazy!
And they don't make action figures about crazy people, do they?
Sincerely, Sigmund
