Last weekend was a rather busy one for me. It seems like my life is becoming a lot more spontaneous these days, and I am unsure if this is a good thing or not. It is tiring though, I'll give it that. Anyway, last Saturday Red Bull was holding its Flugtag event, which for the uninitiated, involves building a human powered flight machine with some sort of theme associated with it, dancing around to some music, and then pushing it off a 20ft platform where it generally manages to beeline straight into the water. If you are really good, it will only sort of beeline into it. You might have seen Red Bull commercials showing people participating in it. Anyway, this is Chicago on a very pleasant day, so I knew it was going to be packed and wasn't really interested in trudging down there with baby in tow. A good friend and neighbor was planning on going, and since the wife was pretty excited about the prospect, I decided to ignore my inner curmudgeon and head out to the event. We strapped Bun-bun in his Bjorn and went on our way. As expected, the event was packed, but we found it fairly easy to move about without a stroller. People are generally nice enough to move for a lady with a baby strapped to her chest as well, so we actually managed to snag a fairly good view of the action. The only real problem was a bunch of kids who decided they could get a better view by sitting on top of some admittedly poorly placed Port-o-Johns, until the roofs caved in (fortunately they didn't break). Also kids, remember, you cannot hide in a crowd of 5,000 people who saw you do it. All in all it was a blast. My favorite was probably Pie in the Sky (they placed 3rd but had the 2nd longest distance).

Since we didn't get anything at the event, and we knew that since we left just as it was ending, anything right by the place would be packed. We headed down south and eventually ran across a Dave and Busters, which is a restaurant and arcade (though they emphasize the former more). I had never been to one before, but seeing as how I enjoy the occasional video game (and the present company liked them too), how could we pass it up. The food ended up being pretty good, though the arcade selection was a little lacking. I am not too picky, but when you only have one fighter (and that is a Tekken game to boot), well, you should buy a few more cabinets. Plus their pricing structure is a bit off (3.7 credits for a game of classic Ms. Pac Man?). But it was a good time and I believe there are some pictures of me with a baby strapped to my chest shooting at zombies floating around somewhere. Then we followed it up with some sundaes at our place. A tiring day, but a good one.
Sunday, we were planning on catching the Bears vs Colts opening game at a friend's place. So the day was following the usual routine of a weekend day (aka nothing special) until this point. We dressed up our little man in a Bears onesie that we had purchased a few days earlier for this event and took him with us. Sometimes, it is hard to put that little guy to sleep, and sometimes, it is impossible to wake him up. In the previous day, at an event number thousands of people with loud music, he was out the entire time. And for a football game in a small apartment with lots of enthusiastic fans? Yup, even though he was next to the speaker, he was passed out for the entirely of the event. Anyway, it was a good time seeing the Colt's new stadium, right next to the old one (FunFact #432: I have been on the RCA Dome field... twice!). It was also enjoyable seeing the Bears take them to the cleaners in the first game ever played there. I think it almost evens out for the SuperBowl loss... almost.
Not much news since then. Just a normal work week. Except for the release of Spore, which I am still waiting for. According to the USPS website, it is still sitting in the Oak Park mail office. Hopefully, it will be waiting for me when I leave from work in a moment, but I'm not holding my breath. We are going out to a CD Exchange party this evening, so I wouldn't have much time to play anyway. And this is my first time being to this type of party before, so I am not really sure what to expect (other than hanging out and listening to music, I guess). Should be fun, but I am planning on this weekend being a bit less dramatic. I need a break.
