It's out early this week and I am actually going to get it done on time for once!
1. Where did you travel on your last vacation or other big trip?
The last vacation was to Florida and the Bahamas. It was most definitely not my idea of a great holiday, but my son conned me into going because he thought I needed a vacation.
2. What was the best trip you ever took? Where did you go, and with whom, and what made it so good?
I really can't pick just one. Norway or an international guiding camp was a big adventure for a teenager on my own (plus lots of interesting sightseeing and cultural aspects). A cruise I did in high school that took me to Italy, Malta, Greece, Turkey and Israel was pretty darned amazing. A week in Paris and Bayeux with my best friend from university was very special because we traveled so well together and wanted to see the same weird things. The time I got paid to check out possible things to do in Manaus, Brazil for an upcoming visit by a government minister was a sweet deal. One of my biggest adventures was going to Sierra Leone to visit several different international development projects in different communities. I met some really wonderful people on that trip. One of my favourite places in the world is the northern tip of Newfoundland. I have been there several times to work as a Viking re-enactor at l'Anse aux Meadows, the site where the Vikings had a settlement in Canada. That trip is always made with good friends, and we get to see friends who live in Newfoundland, plus sightsee in some of the most gorgeous places in the world.
3. Where do you dream of traveling on your next vacation when it's safe to travel again?
Machu Picchu and the Pantanal in Brazil have been high on my list for many years. More recently, I have fallen in love with Uzbekistan and would love to visit Samarkand.
4. Where are you likely to actually travel to on your next vacation when it's safe?
If I can figure out the logistics, Samarkand and possibly parts of Eastern Europe. It's one part of the world I have never explored.
5. Do you prefer to vacation to new places each time or to familiar places -- or maybe you prefer to stay home?
I love seeing new places and rarely return anywhere except for work.
