Saturday just gone (21st June), was the Xfm all day breakfast show where Alex Zane did a 24hr breakfast show, and to celebrate the station organised 8 gigs over the 24 hrs throughout various venues in London and they gave away tickets to all the events. I was lucky enough to win a pair of Golden tickets, which gave me entrance to all 8 gigs! go me.
First gig was at 6am sat and last gig was 4am sun! It was an amazing day, went with Raq for all the gigs and Raq had won a few tickets before I won the golden tickets so she had a few spares so my sister Tasha aand Raq's bf K went with us to a few of the gigs.
Bands that we saw were:
--One Night only///Camden Barfly
--Noah and the Whale, The Mystery jets///the borderline
--Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly///The Fly
--Paul Welllar///KoKo
--Feeder///ULU
--Guillemots///Union CHapel
--Primal Scream///229 Great Portland Street
--Young Knives///100Club
6am--One night only at The Camden Barfly. Amazing gig, the lads had played a gig the night before and had decided to stay up all night so they'd been up for 30 hours and were slightly drunk, in fact at one stage he walked over to the side of the stage and threw up, luckily I was no where near him and couldn't see it as that would have ruined my day, as I have a totally irrational fear of vomit. =/
9am -- Noah and the whale/ mystery jets @ the borderline
Noah and the whale were weird but kinda quirky they grew on me.
mystery jets, amazing show, love his voice, best song was 2 doors down
11am-- get cape. wear cape. fly. at the fly
Great show, Tasha had been looking forward to this and I was a bit worried she wouldn't get in as it was a 18+ venue but they didn't bother checking id so that was cool. Great show love Sam's voice, he was only supposed to play a 40min set for the radio, but after they cut back to the studio he carried on and took requests.
Paul wellar was ok, played mostly stuff from his new album no old stuff which was disappointing but good gig none the less. Another 18+ gig that Tasha didn't have trouble getting into altho they stopped 2 girls in front of us who looked older than her!
Feeder was totally awesome, love this band, played all their hits, atmosphere was amazing apart from 3 idiots who decided to start a mosh pit, at feeder of all places!
Guillemots were good, didn't like the venue, it was the union chapel and I'd thought it was a deconsecrated church, but nope, it's still in use and it had pews and crucifixes all around. It felt really weird in a place of worship listening to live music, the atmosphere was weird as well everyone was quiet and whispering, and I think they'd been told not to play electrics guitars cos the entire set was pretty much acoustic , oh apart from when one of them started playing the saw! I was truly the most surreal gig experiences I've ever had. We weren't allowed to dance in the aisles either ushers kept telling people to sit down so it was weird. If I can avoid it thats one venue I'll definitely be avoiding, too weird for my liking.
Primal scream were amazing, Loved their set it was so so good. They came on stage at midnight so at this stage we were pretty much flagging but as soon as Bobby came on stage Raq and I were revitalised and ready to rock all night.
Then it was the final gig of the night it was 3.30am and it was the young knives at 100 club. At this stage we were tired and ready to go home but we'd come so far and seen so many we thought we'd see it through to the end. It was an ok gig, luckily the 100 club had a bunch of seats so we sat down throughout the gig couldn't have stood up . They're a strange looking bunch but guess that's their 'thing'
all in all it was an amazing day, wouldn't do it again in a hurry but it was definitely worth it. I'm only just recovering from staying up for over 24 hrs. Roll on next years even I say!!
