Booty call, baby.

Gunn knew Angel might not appreciate the fact that he'd taken the liberty of calling in reinforcements. Angel liked to be the big man, liked to call the shots. After all, he was the resident Champion. He'd kinda earned his position as head honcho. But Gunn also knew that Angel was stubborn, and that he would spend his time worrying about what was ( Read more... )

There was a groan.

A grumble.

A clattering, followed by some swearing.

It was only early evening, but the room was pitch black, thanks to the heavy shut out curtains covering the windows. And around the California king sized four poster bed along the far wall of the room. One gloved hand had parted from the mound of covers, snaked around the curtains and unceremoniously knocked the phone over. Reaching blindly, the hand kept falling just around it. Swearing loudly, finally a head emerged to actually look for the damned thing.

Gwen Raiden did not look happy to be awoken. She snatched up the receiver, growling into it. "Somebody better be dead, or there's gonna be a corpse, and it'll be yours."

"Somebody better be dead, or there's gonna be a corpse, and it'll be yours."

Gunn winced. Gwen did not sound pleased. He silently hoped she'd forgive him once she understood the circumstances. This was badness, ultimate badness. They needed her help, and she so owed him a favor. "Hey, Gwen... sorry to wake you," he apologized, cringing inwardly. "Does almost dead count? I mean, technically we're all dead meat if we don't solve this little problem we got. New super-demon in town. We're looking to put some serious hurt on it. Was hoping you could lend us a hand -- both of 'em, if you can spare it."

It took a moment for the voice on the other end to register in her sleep addled brain. It was like the tumblers in her mind weren't rolling and locking into position like they were supposed to. Super-demon, lend us a hand.. wha?

"Denzel?"

CLICK!

There was a sound of rustling, egyptian cotton sheets rubbing against each other, against her body as she squirmed and wiggled to sit up. He had her full attention. "Gimme the scoop. What are we looking at?"

"Gimme the scoop. What are we looking at?"

"As far as we know? Hellgod," Gunn told her plainly, knowing it was best not to sugarcoat the situation. Gwen wouldn't appreciate that, anyway. "Kinda fuzzy on the rest of the details. She's big, blue, packs a hell of a punch, and from the looks of it, she can manipulate time. Figured that out when she put me in freeze-frame and decided to run off after doing a whole load of taunting. This bitch is out for blood, though... she ain't foolin' around."

He shifted slightly, knowing he had her attention, and hoping she would consent to helping out. "Looking for a little action? We could use your superpowers in our corner."

"Looking for a little action? We could use your superpowers in our corner."

The laugh she gave was a bit.. dirty. Action, he said? Oh yeah. She was completely awake now. Had to be, to have a fully formed, well-crafted dirty thought like that. "Action? Well, I'm always up for action. As for playing Avengers Assemble? Sure, I'm game. My fine craft of thieving is just useless, with all the looting going on out there. Way too easy."

She kicked back the corners, yawning softly and executing a full body stretch that made her body pop in all the right places. One knee was drawn to her chest, her chin taking up perch on it. "So where should I meet you and the gang? That hotel place?"

"So where should I meet you and the gang? That hotel place?"

"That's the place," Gunn told her, giving a short nod to noone in particularly. He chose to ignore her comment about action. He wasn't entirely opposed to the idea of a little "action" with Gwen, but now really wasn't the time. He had to keep rallying the troops. He'd gotten Faith, and now Gwen. He wanted to call up Sullivan next, see if he couldn't get her to consent to helping out. He thought it might be a good idea to give Anne a ring, too, if he had the time... he didn't expect her to come and help, but he liked to know that his people were safe.

"We'll all be here. I don't think we're goin' anywhere, unless Big Blue shows up and lays the smackdown... then I'll be off in the arms of baby Jesus. But yeah. Hurry. And thanks. We'll put your special skill to some good use here, I promise. And easy? I don't think you'll run into that problem here. You can cross 'boring' off the list, too."
