More fun than a barrel of damn monkeys.

"From experience with dealing with hell gods and dying in the process, it doesn't actually work. You can't win without a loop hole, I took on Glory with Spike's help and Willow working mojo and we barely put a dent in her armor."

Right. Because that was comforting. Nevertheless, Angel gave Buffy a wry smile as the others adjourned. Wes and Fred ( Read more... )

"I'm here to be on board. It's not like I have anything else to do. And that came out wrong."

I rolled my eyes at myself. Way to jumble the offer of help Buffy, good going.

I kind of laughed at his stake comment. "Last time I fought something blue I had to use a rocket launcher, got any of those laying around?" I joked, despite the fact it probably wasn't the best time to joke, but this was me. Inappropriateness is my middle name.

I looked towards the weapons cabinet, "tell me this isn't all you have? Not that it's not well divided but ..." Now insult him, I'm so on a roll.

"On board is good," I said. Then, I shook my head. "No, no rocket launchers..." I shuddered at the thought. If we'd had a rocket launcher just laying around when Jasmine had been unleashed... or even worse, when Angelus had...

"No, this isn't all we have," I replied, slightly insulted. "We have more downstairs... this is just the everyday stuff." Well, and the weapons we needed most often... the ones downstairs weren't everyday weapons.

"Besides," I added. "If you've faced one god-king, you've faced them all." I tried to stay deceptively bright; it was a realxing thing to at least be able to joke after everything lately. I knew we had more coming our way now, but... I hadn't joked in so long, it felt almost foreign to me. For so long, there had been nothing *to* joke about...

I couldn't hide my grin.

"Did you just make a joke? Wow, it's been a while since I've heard that, it's nice."

I bit my lip nervously, I was such a whimp, less than an hour ago I had my tongue down his throat and now I was getting nervous inside.

"Want to show me, or point me in the right direction?"

"Yeah." I said, and shut the weapons cabinet. "They're downstairs." I stepped away from the cabinet, then said, "Yeah, it's been a while since there was anything *to* joke about."

I paused, and looked back at her. She looked like the girl I had known that long ago, but... older. She had always had old eyes, but now... they seemed like they had seen way too much. And yeah, I supposed she had. After all, she was the Slayer.

"So are you still the Slayer with all the quips?" I asked.

I raised my eyebrow.

"I try, the new girls just don't understand the importance of quips. Throwing the vamps off their game, or at least distracting them."

I looked around to see if I could spot a way to get downstairs.

"I'd ask you if you were still all broody, but I can already tell the answer to that one."

I glanced at her as I led her down the stairs to the basement. Hitting the light switch, I remarked, "NOt broody. Just... quiet."

I raised an eyebrow at her, "And I don't do humor or sarcasm that well, according to anyone around here." Reaching the bottom of the stairs, I gestured around.

"Well, we're here."

"You not sarcastic? Please. Not funny, but definately sarcastic."

I looked around the basement, my eye caught various weapons I almost headed straight for the crossbow but I remembered this was a god, crossbow so not gonna do it.

I finally noticed a rather large looking battleax. I weighed my decision.

"I'm like that axe, but if I loose it, it would definately kill me." I looked around in thought, working through my mind the possibilities.

"Wish we had that Troll's Hammer, it weakened Glory." I walked around looking at everything very nice collection. I'd lost most of my favorite weapons to the hellmouth.

"So besides the quietness and blue gods, what's been going on?" Making small talk always seemed to distract me from thinking about him, but only, slightly.

I watched as she picked up an axe, then sighed. "You wouldn't lose it... you're too careful with weapons. Unless you picked up a new habit?" I asked dryly.

"Not a lot," I said. "We've had our share of demons, and some goddess, but... we handled it," I said easily. Of course, it had been nowhere near as easy as I made it sound... but she didn't need to know that.

"Me? Having bad habits? Never?" I replied with just as much dryness as he had laced in his voice.

"Not a lot," I said. "We've had our share of demons, and some goddess, but... we handled it,"

I nodded and went for the axe. "Handling is good. We handled the first, but then again Sunnydale is a big hole now, so ..."

I heard a voice roll down to the basement.

"Sounds like someone just made an arrival. And I thought I was the only surprise." I joked and walked past him. Hey, I was a nosy girl, so sue me.
